Troy Aikman to Join ESPN Monday Night Football

Aikman getting $90 Million to talk about football for a 3 hours per week for 18 weeks of the year for 5 years. He made less than $30 Million in salary over his entire 12-year career to beat himself retarded actually playing the game.

This, my friends, is a contributing factor to the downfall of the NFL.

If he were playing today he'd be making over 30M per season.

No argument there; but that doesn't negate my point. His current TV deal pays him about $250,000 per hour to TALK about football. Even if Aaron Rodgers does get $50M/y, he's still making less than $50,000 per hour for the grueling physical and mental stress of actually playing the game.

We're going to see more and more that the stars of the game are going to start bowing out of competition earlier and earlier because actually playing just won't be worth it anymore.

None of these guys get to the highest level because they’re chasing money.

We might see guys finally decide to hang it up, like Brees, because there is a spot there. But we aren’t going to see it often. There just aren’t many spots.

There are 16 (roughly)color analyst positions and maybe 10 studio gigs. Half of em are coaches.

Fair points, but that's also just a fraction of media reach. Podcasts, blogs, youtube channels... all that shit is what the younger generations consume. Hell, my kids are 18 & 20 and they spend more time watching youtube videos of other people talking about video games than they do actually playing the video games. Those other media methods are going to get hotter and pay out bigger as these young'uns get older and become the primary consumers.
