The Athletic reporting on NIL craziness ...

It's actually not ... that is the beauty of NIL. It eliminates Title IX which applies to the schools, not these 3rd party collectives that are making the payments. Now, they will pay some money to the lady athletes for PR, but Title IX avoidance is a feature of this, not a bug.
In principle yes but schools get too meddlesome then it will be an issue. Schools as it is aren’t supposed to have any direct involvement with these desks and it seems those rules are being skirted primarily because no one is really sure what the rules are or should be.

No ... the collectives are clearly 3rd parties. They are non-profits, run by boards. They aren't in any way related to the university from a perspective that would in any way put them under Title IX which apply. Title IX applies to all educational institutions, both public and private, that receive federal funds. It's a federal law, and none of these companies are getting federal funds and they aren't educational institutions.

There are plenty of problems here, and some real positive things, too. But Title IX ain't one of the problems. At least legally. Again, they will have to kick some money to the ladies, but that is all PR.

Where you been the last 4 months. How do you think ATM got the class they got? Before anyone @'s me, I am sure UGA will get involved like this if they aren't already. But if you don't think NIL inducement to go to ATM was part of that class, I have some property in the everglades to sell you. It's totally what isn't supposed to happen, but obviously is. These "Collectives" are going to be interesting, for sure. We have one and I hear another may be announced. SMH.
lol they didn't announce an 8 million dollar deal to Nolan or any of it's recruits publicly like TN just did. Aggy saying it's NIL without any proof is a far cry from TN saying NIL and hiding behind the word collective, when it's just a contract to come play there.

I have seen any details on deals in the A&M class. Keep in mind bags and NIL are considered the same thing lately. Texas A&M literally couldn’t do a deal like this with kids in Texas. I don’t remember the states but it’s I believe it is less than 10 states allow NIL deals for HS kids.

ATM most certainly did NIL deals with their players. Dumbo all but admitted it. They didn't go public like UTjr has, but ATM did this and I am not being critical ... if it's within the rules, or can be argued that it is, go for it. As I stated before, UGA has a collective and is or will be on all this. It's the way it is.

It wasn't NIL deals.. They were bags under the table. They will have a collective soon too but as of now the only thing publicly is one through Texags (their $9.95 website)

Perhaps they did, perhaps they didn’t. I have not seen a single one reported, just the rumor they spent a lot on them. I have no doubt UGa will be on top of it. I have though UGa and A&M have been the dirtiest programs in the country the last few years. UGa will be back

I'm going to predict that at some point an aggressive prosecutor with an ax to grind will conjure up a tax fraud case against some people. I'm not hoping for that to happen but there are just too many opportunities for an aggressive prosecutor to make a name for himself/herself.

Not a chance. When you can do it legally no one at ATM would be that stupid. It was NIL.

Maybe some rules regarding time at school should be put in.
like cant earn money from these school based collectives until 2nd year or certain number of games played.

Yup.... or possibly based on academic progress.... such as no NIL deals until 12 credit hours have been completed....12 is generally the minimum # of credit hours per semester in order to be considered a full-time student at many/most colleges, although most students take 14 to 16 credits per semester if they want to finish their degree in four years.

Not going to be a talent drop-off at tOSU anytime soon.

Also implies that Urbs won't be taking other HC jobs anytime soon.

Don’t worry, Nick Saban will not be the head coach at Alabama.

Kinda weird to see Casey thompson say that if you start at Nebraska, you are going to make six digits there.

That's what I was thinking.
After thinking about it, sounds like he want's everyone in Austin to know they are getting screwed, whether it's actually true or not.

Did he leave on good terms, or was he pushed out.

as a side note, The Athletic is an excellent site.
If you catch it right, you can get it at $1 a month for a year. Mine's about $50 a year. Well worth it. Great detailed coverage.
