Do you agree with adding the DH to the NL?

Hmmm?

DHs as a group hit .239/.316/.434 in 2021.

With those three players excluded the DH slash line drops to .238/.312/.423.

League average last year was .244/.317/.411. So the DH line without those three was pretty close to a league average hitter.

I think that some of the confusion/disagreement is in how we're looking at the terms. I don't think of "Replacement level hitter" and "Replacement level DH" as the same thing or as describing the same level of offensive production but I think you might be using them that way.

With a slash line of .238/.312/.423, I would be looking to my farm system for a replacement at any position.

A .735 OPS is higher than the league averages at 3 positions and within 6 points of the average at three more. It's 7 points above the league average. If you have players who might be able to do that in MLB playing a variety of positions in your farm system they are wasting their good years and you are wasting their value.

"I might like to replace him as my starter" is not the same thing as "he is playing at a replacement level"

Exactly. And, I would trade a DH with that line for a middle relief guy and a box of balls.

Meh.

I don't love it but since we all knew it was coming I'm just indifferent at this point.

Hell no. Having a DH takes all the skill out of managing a lineup.

This...kind of.

It doesn't take all of the skill out, but it does take a good chunk of it out.

One of the biggest decisions a manager has to make is when it gets to about the 6th inning of a close game, there's a runner in scoring position with 2 out, the pitcher is up, he's pitching a strong game...the manager has to decide whether or not to send in a pinch hitter.

That one decision often determines the outcome of the game.

When did you start watching baseball? 2013?

Shame we never got to see a Bob Gibson / Nolan Ryan scuffle.
