Oregon destroyed Florida State football

Something like this never had one sole reason. That said....that abominable loss to Oregon in the Rose Bowl isn’t even up on the list. The team still went 20-6 the next two years.

And I would like to put it all on Taggert (and help keep the Oregon destroyed FSU thing) but Taggert got one year and it’s just lazy to put anything on him.

The biggest reason they have fallen so apart is Jumbo. After the championship he coasted. Maybe he wasn’t a great recruiter to begin with....something happened after beating Auburn for the title (maybe even before). They were always taking high grade classes. But you have to develop those classes too or they won’t match their high recruiting grade.

Jumbo left them in shambles and way past a quick fix. Taggert was never a good fit. Now you have Norvell. Good fit or not you have to dig in your heels with this group for a few years and work hard to turn it around.

Meh breaking in a new QB for the first time.

It took until after the LSU game to get rolling that year and then we played in the national championship game. I've got no complaints.
It was a great year for Auburn. The UGA and Bama games happened back and had two of the craziest finishes ever

People don't remember but there was a crazy play at the end of the FSU game that just one more lateral and Auburn might have sprung that one and pulled another one out of their ass. If that had happened I might have had to retire from college football because nothing would have topped that season.

So you are agreeing with him?
No... Willie was born and raised in Florida and cut his teeth for coaching 10 + or - years at Western Kentucky... so yeah I'd say Kentucky ruined it more than Oregon. At 1 year

I remember that game. Regardless of the Cinderella quality the UGA and Bama games were we were expected to roll you guys. But it wasn’t like that. Utterly insane game and I was not counting anything until 0:00. Who was that RB again? I can’t remember his name, just that he flamed out in the NFL.

I remember that play at the end and my sphincter closing up for a moment. Lol

Tre Mason was the running back and his story is pretty sad actually. Evidently, he had taken so many hits that it literally scrambled his brain or mental illness set in and he started acting out in uncharacteristic ways and had to get help in a mental hospital. There was some report that he claimed he was ready to return to the NFL but there is no way a doctor would ever clear him.

That’s right! I thought I remembered some sad story to how he flamed out. He ran like a fucking bull with his head down looking for contact. Only, that helmet isn’t the same as horns.

Sad story indeed. And another reminder that takes a little bit of joy out of enjoying the game for me.

The Noles have not been the same since Oregon destroyed them in the Rose Bowl, ending their natty repeat and ending their almost two year winning streak.

And you still choked in the next game. Yet we won the natty the year before.

FSU that year after the Oregon 5 turnover debacle destroyed Miami and Florida with Dalvin Cook. Get your shit together OD

No willie Taggart destroyed FSU football like I said he would.. all hype no action..
Was thinking about this the other night. Willie was awful he went 2 years and didn’t get land 1 QB. Jimbo left a mess but it wasn’t this bad.

Dalvin Cook was a player and probably should have won a Heisman. That dude pulled out a lot of games by almost his own effort and helped cover up issues.

Jimbo should have replaced Trickett and put an emphasis on the O-Line. That O-Line issues are what started all the other problems.

But FSU took Taggart directly from Oregon. Doesn't matter. It takes a series of blunders to put a program like FSU in the state it is in currently, not just one coaching hire

He did. Think we actually owned Miami and Florida those next 2 years after the Oregon game. Hell I didn’t expect us to go back to back with Cook as a freshman but we almost did

Miami looks pretty good this year and I expect Florida to be the same. Gonna take some time for us we need a QB and some Olineman

What happened with the NC State qb that was a FSU commit? Not saying he was the best but could have been another option.

UNC? He decommited. Jordan Travis came from Louisville and he looks pretty good running around for his life back there he got hurt.

What has hurt FSU the most is recruiting and it isnt Oregon that's responsible for it. It's Alabama, Clemson, UGA and LSU. The competition keeps increasing as well, Ole Miss and Miss St have made significant coaching hires. Florida is on the upswing still. It could be a long few years at FSU.

Wasn't even close to a choke. tOSU had the better team that day.

Hmm not sure - one of the NC schools.

I know everyone is ragging on FSU atm but I do think Norvell gets things figured out and turns around that program. He may need to clean out some of the locker room in the process and that team goes through a couple more painful years but I do think good things will happen over time with that program.
