Welcome to the Air Raid era SEC

It's tough in Lubbock since it's a LOOOOOONG drive to Houston, Central TX for recruiting purposes.. DFW is closer but not that much.. 5 hours or so? But that's where they need to plant a flag at
Lubbock is 8 hours to Houston. 6 to Austin and 5 to Dallas. It’s in the middle of nowhere. They are in the middle of no where. So many people think they have solid recruiting grounds.

Well they are pretty close to the fertile recruiting grounds of western oklahoma and NM

So, using your analysis of all three schools/cities from a recruiting standpoint, Leach would be able to attract the most talent to Pullman, the 2nd most talent to Lubbock and the 3rd most talent to Starkvegas? He's going to have less talent at Cowbell U than he's had at the other two? Hell, if that's the case, he should be coach of the year if he wins a single game in the SEC. He might as well have taken the Vandy job. At least he'd had some smart players to have conversations with.

Negative, read the last line. It is still going to be easier to recruit Miss St. Not everyone can go to LSU or Alabama, getting the kids that can't go to the better SEC schools is still superior to getting the kids that can't get in to the better Pac-12 schools. What kid is deciding on going to school based on the town? Pullman is a way nicer town than Starkville, but the 3 star kid from Jackson, or Memphis or Nashville isn't going to Pullman. There is just way more talent closer to Starkville than either Lubbock or Pullman.

Leach will get his players. Average coaches were getting 3-4 stars. Where is most of the talent in the US? In the south. Alabam, Georgia, texas, Florida, MS. If he will have so much better recruiting at Miss St especially if he starts to win it’s ridiculous. Not comparable to Wazzu.
You mention how SEC teams will catch on but how long will it take. Every team is different. Impossible to know for sure. He hasnt changed his scheme and gameplan for a reason, it works everywhere.

He was getting 2-3 star QB’s at Wazzu, jusg imagine what he can get at school that was ranked around #25 in 2020. The sky is the limit. Remember Dan Mullen was competing for the division with Bama, they were #1 at one point and I think Leach is a WAY better coach and play caller. He’s a genius compared to Mullen. Recruiting defense will also be much easier. That’s something Miss St has always recruiting well....the thing missing for Mullen and over the years was a scheme and offensive weapons. Receivers/offensive weapons are going to flock to Miss St especially if he succeeds in his very 1st year
Yawn, Mrs State got to be #1 in 2014, because a lot of people thought they were better than they were because they beat some teams that were not as good as advertised...sound familiar. In 2014 they jumped from unranked to #13 by beating...you guessed it...LSU. Then in back to back games they beat #6 AtM...who finished 8-5 and #2 Auburn who also finished 8-5, to take over the #1 ranking. Then Mrs State proceeded to lose 3 of their last 4 to end the season. The pirate is going to suffer a similar fate, no matter how many want to appoint him the new king of the SEC.

Sure he can recruit better athletes than he did at Wash St....but so does everybody else in the SEC.

Mike Leach was 55-47 with a 2-4 bowl record at Washington St. Mike Price was 83-78 with a 3-2, he's arguably not even the most successful coach in Pullman in the last 20 years.

Leach has had two seasons with 10 or more wins in 19 years of coaching, I think you might need to pump the breaks on the genius hype.

Mike brings some much needed entertainment to the SEC and I like the guy and enjoy watching his teams play, and love them on my fantasy roster and I'm happy he got his first SEC win, especially because it was LSU, but his 8th SEC win will come sometime next year.

MuLLLen hardly was competing for the division. In a post above, an Bama fan lays out the one year that everyone overreacted and how they came tumbling down. And, Gator fans will not take your criticism well ... haven't you heard, he's an offensive genius, QB whisperer, no one develops players better than MuLLLen.

Kidding aside, I am not sure Leach is any more of a genius than MuLLLen. You said his system works everywhere ... he's never won a conference (or a division?), and his record was 55-47 with a 2-4 bowl record at Washington St. I am not sure that's the definition of "works everywhere."

He can get all the players he wants, and he will still be ranked 8-12 in the SEC recruiting rankings. He's great for the game, but he's an oddball. There's a reason no top team has taken a shot at him. He's always one interview away from embarrassing the school. That from someone who really likes him in football.

As many have said here, he'll win some he shouldn't from time to time, and lose some he shouldn't from time to time.

The problem with all of that recruiting talk...it's all wrong lol. He will get the most talent at Miss St and it really isn't close. Why? Well MS, AL and GA have some of the best recruits in the nation...he already has connections with Texas and the west coast. Do you know where Minshew played high school ball? He played in Brandon, MS. He already has south connections but instead of getting 2 or 3 star guys like he was getting in Lubbock or Pullman he will be getting 3 or 4 stars..along with some 5 stars. It didn't matter of the location of Lubbock...he was fighting with Texas and A&M along with the Oklahoma schools. Mississippi has some great recruits...he can get 4 star guys and only compete with Ole Miss. Bama and UGA are going for the top dogs only.

Leach was in Lubbock from 00-09 his best recruiting class was #28.
Leach was in Pullman from 12-19, with more experience as a head coach, and his best recruiting class was #42.

Mississippi St recruiting classes over the years with several HC's: most have been decent at best
2019 - 24
2018 - 27
2017 - 24
2016 - 28
2015 - 18
2014 - 36
2013 - 24
2012 - 22
2011 - 41
2010 - 30
2009 - 18

Now imagine that with Leach's connections all around the country. He is up there with Dan Mullen and his best class was in 2015 #18. He is going to get so much better talent here, it's crazy.

You're missing the point. Leach is a MUCH BETTER coach than Mullen. Mullen was overrated, he stuck in his stupid system and he would not change it for the world. The point is Leach is going to get much better players at Miss State than he ever has in his career. That's a fact. Like I have said, it doesn't mean he is going to win the SEC...not many can when you are playing in Bama's division and LSU. They will always get better players but the sky is the limit for Leach in Starkvegas...not sure how some people are realizing this. He doesn't even have any of his players as well, literally the first game. LOL

LOL I watched it first hand. Mullen was a good coach but he was vastly overrated. Leach depends on his system and recruits players for that system. He never had the talent in Lubbock or Pullman. He will get that talent in Starkville...hard to believe for you but it will happen. He doesn't need 5 star guys to win games but 4 stars guys is a hell of a lot better than a clusterfuck of 2 or 3 star guys. Winning 9 games in the SEC West is like winning 11 games in PAC. BTW he finished 8th in the country at Wazzu in 2018 and 9th in 2008 with Texas Tech...with average talent. He is going to more dangerous than people believe but you can believe whatever you want. Just watch and enjoy the show.

Miss St vs UGA should be a good one...UGA has all the 5 star talent vs Miss with still the 3-4 star talent. UGA should win by 3 TD's, right? Yes, they should.

Only thing I disagree with is he is going to be getting any 4 or 5 star QB recruits.

As I said in another post, when they did the crossovers I was glad to get Arky and MSU instead of TAMU or LSU. After this weekend, the MSU game certainly became a tougher out than before. Sure am glad to get you later in the year when there is a lot more film on what Leach is doing. I am not sure we have the offense to say we win by 3 TDs ... not sure we beat too many teams by 3 TDs this year. But, yes, we should win, we are certainly the more talented team by a wide margin. Also, we have the best D in the country, certainly better than you saw this past Saturday. That said, I am sure it will be a good and wild game.

What kid is deciding on going to school based on the town?
LOL what kid? How about Von Miller who didn't like too big, too fast city life of Austin. He actually loved College Station.

The sky is not the limit...you just said so yourself. All the teams that Leach has to play also have more talent than the teams he is used to playing. Beating a vastly overrated LSU team doesn't change that.

Mullen won 69 games at Mississippi State, Leach has won one. It's quite possible for Mississippi State to be 4-0 or 3-1 going in to the Alabama game. It's also quite possible for them to be 5-4 or 4-5 going into the Missouri game.

LSU stunk it up on offense, allowing 7 sacks & 7 TFL's and Brennan had a QBR of 32.2....and they were still tied with 9 to play.

Leach had to leave the SEC to have limited success with the air raid, and it's going to take more than beating an overrated LSU team to make a believer out of me.

Ok, but did he specifically choose College Station because of College Station or would Waco have done just as well.

Is this the coach who sexually abused a player with a concussion?

i give aggy shit but why would Baylor make his list?? He wasn't with the don't take no for an answer and our coaches will handle the fall out..type of recruiting pitch.

WOOSH...my point was would any small town with a decent team have fit the bill, or did he specifically choose aTm because of College Station. Regardless. your anecdote aside, there are probably more players that chose a school based on a blowjob they got on a visit than because they liked the town.
