Big 12 announces Bob Bowlsby will step down as commissioner later this year

I think the lack of basketball titles is the biggest shocker for the B1G. They've had several years where a handful of schools should have competed for the title, only to crap out in the tourney early on. The spring sports being dominated by warm weather schools is no surprise. If the B1G gets a team to Omaha at all, its a massive success.
Yeah, schools in the north are behind the eight ball in spring sports. The other big "blank" is the lack of a men's hoops champion from the PAC 12. The conference with the history of John Wooden has nada.
Stop livin in the past and have a look at this, who's #1?:

Baseball... HA!

We are Vandy's daddy!
Tech's going to drop from #4. They take 2 of 3 against the #7 team two weeks ago. Then drop both games in a mid week series against Grand Canyon this week. Baseball has as many or more :headscratch: ers than hoops does.

once Tech leaves home.. they struggle.. not all ballparks are hitter friendly like the one in lubbock

No doubt Rip Griffen can be hitter friendly...especially with some spring wind directions. But they seem to even struggle at home. They just haven't looked like a #4 team this year. At least not consistently. JMO

What's with Texas State being ranked in the top 10?

they got some legit pitchers.. crazy the amount of talent the state produces with baseball players

It is interesting is that the Big12 has been on of the top leagues in all sports but has been poached multiple times. The original Big12 was a very competitive league and still would be had they stuck together. $$$ and hard time for a couple of power programs (notably Nebraska) caused the exodus.

titans are NFL.

we are not talking about the best experience we are talking about experiencing vanderbilt.
i have been to stadiums literally coast to coast (and beyond-Hawaii). P5 and G5. its about experiencing what different schools in different areas have to offer.

Trust me, Vanderbilt is not a "good" college experience when it comes to football. Now the school in general is a great school and I would highly recommend it. Not even just the academics, the campus experience is great, the football experience is NOT. Belmont and Vanderbilt are pretty much next to each other and are in a part of Nashville with a ton of neat restaurants, bars, etc. and is a perfect atmosphere for young adults.

It is a surprise that Indiana has fallen off the map and Michigan State isn't winning like they have in the past. They are the closest options the B1G has to Blue Bloods.

Purdue and Wisconsin are typically dependable in Basketball but neither seems good enough to get to the next level. Illinois also tends to have decent teams.

Michigan and Ohio State tend to always be good but they are more focused on football than Basketball.

Maryland was decent in the early 2000s in the ACC but they have been pretty forgettable recently (even prior to joining the B1G).

Iowa is like Tennessee in the SEC, they do great during regular season but never really do well in March Madness.

From a cultural/rivalry standpoint, I really wish the B1G had picked up Syracuse and Pittsburgh instead of Rutgers and Maryland. Both would fit better in the B1G. Then again, I wish the original Big12 was still together as well.

Thanks Texas for running them all off.

sucks that the BiG said no to y'all without Daddy.. and when we said no to the PAC, they told y'all no too.

the power brokers never were in full alignment..it was a conference founded on desperation.. Big8 was dying, SWC was dying. It was a good conference but it's tough to keep everyone happy when the big schools ALL agreed to unequal revenue. Not just that, they couldn't agree on the championship games. It was a rotation between St Louis and cities in TX ( San Antonio, Houston, Dallas).. which were bigger money deals.

Then later when Texas was doing good, you had other schools think the conference was too Texas-centric. Like it was ok for ou to be getting blown out in BCS title games. Mix in the AD in Osborne thinking Nebraska was getting jibbed all the time fair or not. Think the last straw was seeing Iowa St/KSU/KU/osu begin to vote with UT instead of sticking with the core Big8 aka Nebraska's way.

As much blame as the LHN network got, there were emails proving that DeLoss told Bebe that they needed to do a conference network for it's tier 3 rights. Beebe like it and met with NU, and they nixed it. Beebe told it was a no go, and that NU was already exploring it's own platform for it's tier 3. UT then later asked aggy and the rest was history on how this all played out.

If anything the real blame should be on the shoulders of the ADs for acting like this was a game of RISK, or at the very least the poor leadership of the then commissioner Dan Beebe

Oklahoma would have never gone to the Pac. Joe C hates the 11am kickoffs too much.

lmao bro, he was ready to go and even acted like he would still go despite UT saying no at the last hour.. Again the Pac didn't want y'all without us in tow.

*BTW I don't think there would have been as many 11am kickoffs.. they would have move the kickoffs to the afternoon or evening when playing in the CST time zone. When they would play out West, it would be late kicks for sure

You want the truth? Looking at you Kansas, Vanderbilt, Illinois, many of the ACC teams, etc. So long as the conference $$$ is rolling in, they just flat don't care if their football programs are decent. Why spend the money and put out all that effort to get better when they are getting paid to sit on their ass and cash the checks? It's another form of welfare and they feel they are entitled to get it. The mooches in the Big XII are going to really find out that mean OU and Texas were their sugar daddies and life is going to get a whole lot harder for them when the Irate 8 turns into the Second Rate 12.

case in point was the decision of the ACC commish to vote against playoff expansion. He really thinks that ND will become a full member in their conference. That conference is about to lose it's biggest institutions within the next decade. They voted with the BiG conference and they will be grabbing UVA/Duke while UNC/Clemson get yanked to the SEC. Short Sighted again

There is always two sides of the story from my perspective. I do think a few things could have saved the league:

1. Revenue Sharing
2. Conference Network
3. OU-Nebraska being a locked game every year

However, that may not have 100% solved the problems. As you stated, it became too Texas-Centric and that was always inevitable with most of the recruits, population, and money being in Texas.

This is why I got into an argument earlier.

What could have Oklahoma State, Kansas State, or Texas Tech done differently? They invested into football and major sports, upgraded their facilities, etc. Poor geography and smaller fanbases doomed them. It isn't like they could have done anything different to keep this from happening so the whole (they should have done something) argument doesn't hold water. The schools listed above had been better than Texas lately.

I'd put TCU and Iowa State on that list too; they have ponied up a lot of money to improve their football programs. But bottom line, it's unreasonable to get too upset that Oklahoma and Texas decided to join the SEC for all the additional revenue they will earn. True, it might be harder for Oklahoma to win with the same consistency we have enjoyed over the past few years (with the exception of Muleshoe's last year when OU was pathetic and regressed even more while our hot shot QB steadily got worse at the end of the season but I digress) and Texas has under performed miserably for years. But having a couple of years to get ready for a SEC football schedule could be enough to see OU and Texas do well as soon as they make the jump. Sometimes people, schools and even nations just move on and leave others behind. It sucks for the remaining members of the Irate 8. There's no doubt about that. But screw Kansas. And Jr. getting an attitude and threatening to drop Bedlam is about as stupid as you can get.

Thanks to Texas, those schools all got paid more than schools in the PAC or ACC.. just on the first 2 tiers alone, their 3rd tier rights were just gravy on top. They were smart and got all the upgrades and newer stadiums/renovations done. Now that the sugar daddy is gone, they will have to be shrewd
