It was from an ESPN article. I had it bookmarked but now I can't find it. So I've got nothing to show you. Sorry. I'm not going to diss ND anymore except to say ND is treated like a primma donna and it's grating on a lot of college football fans' nerves. Lord knows a lot of people hate on OU too because we can't seem to win a big game to save our lives. Name a team and there's a bunch of people who don't particularly like them for one reason or the other.
You said ND raised issues in the last talks. That most definitely didn't happen. ND was conceding to things because they aren't in a conference. Sure it's easier for them to make a 12 team playoff, but it's easier for everyone else too.

ND and Oklahoma can get into the 4 team playoff on blueblood name recognition.
It can be argued Baylor or TCU would have gotten an invite in 2014 (with a 12th win) if their name had been Notre Dame or Oklahoma.
Notre Dame got In at 10-1 in the covid year.
Ohio St got in at 6-0.

I wracked my brain trying to remember where I saw the article about the Notre Dame people complaining but I can't find it. What the article was talking about is the Notre Dame people were upset that with the proposed 12 team playoff Notre Dame would not qualify for a bye no matter how high they were ranked. It had to do with the "13th data point" and how ND is an independent so they wouldn't be eligible to skip the opening round of the proposed playoff format.

ND isn't getting in on name recognition. ND was rightfully chosen both years they got in.

Yeah, I mean coming from the ND perspective, it does suck that ND would never get a bye in the CFP in the 12 team model. But that wasn't something that was holding up a 12 team playoff. ND's AD is involved in all those discussions, and agreed to those terms. So, while they can disagree with it, it wasn't something that was stopping a 12 team playoff. It's a win/win for all involved. Non ND fans can still make fun of ND for not being in a conference and not being able to get a bye, and ND has a pretty easy path to getting in a 12 team playoff mostly every season.

I have followed expansion way closer than any rational human being would. I agree. They were not the party that got in the way. The made major concessions.

Yeah, and as a fan, I'm fine with it. I like being an independent. If that's the price it pays, so be it. If we are 5-8 and if this ends up with those teams getting a home CFP game, that'd be sweet. Then we play the 4 seed(if we're the 5), and who knows depending on who the 4 seed is, we may be better than them.

ND's problem, and I am not a ND hater, is that they have wet the bed every time they got to a CFP or NY6 Bowl game. Every time. At some point you have to aske why they keep getting lumped in if they can't win. No other school could lose that regularly and still be seen an elite team.

I think the problem some people have is that by not playing in a conference championship, you have one less game that could keep you out. For example, any SEC team has had to go through Bama for the past 12 years. That for the most part was an elimination game. You don't have that.
I also think part of the problem is that your schedule isn't what it used to be. You don't play Michigan any more, not sure about MSU, and USC hasn't been competition. I say that knowing you have played us twice, and you play Clemson from time to time. But the 5 game ACC schedule isn't very tough, normally. I don't really follow your SOS, so I could be totally wrong, but that is the impression I have that other people think and look at.
It would go a long way if you guys could win a game that matters. This article I found:

I am not a hater. I had a blast when we came to play you guys, and when you all came to Athens. ND is a beautiful campus, and I grew up in an era where ND was royalty so that is how my mind remembers it. I think you have a very good coach ... I hope he can take you to the next level.

If it's Oklahoma at 11-1 in 2014 they're likely in.

Yeah, but it essentially requires us to be undefeated to make it, which I'm fine with. We were 12-0 in 2018. And in 2020 were 10-0 heading into the ACCCG, which we lost to Clemson. All bets are off with an 11-1 ND, just like this past season. And we didn't make it.
Yeah, we haven't won a big game in a while. Guess you could say the Michigan game in 2018 is probably the best win of the BK era. Maybe Stanford in 2012.
Our SoS is up and down. The last 5 years(not counting the Covid year) according to Sagarin our SoS has been 43(2021), 37(2019), 31(2018), 2(2017). It hasn't helped that USC has had like 1 good year in that timeframe, and the ACC has been down since 2018. We play OSU and Clemson this season, so that should be two top 5/10 teams. But you don't know what to expect from teams like UNC, BYU, Boston College and USC etc. I'd expect our SoS for this year to be closer to 40 than 10 or so.
Yeah, I think Freeman was the right guy for the job. Seems to be doing very well on the recruiting trail, hopefully it can translate to wins on the field.

That ND made the 4 team cut 'twice', stands to reason they'd be a top 4 in similar 12 team scenarios too, right?

I thought you were implying ND was only getting in because of name recognition in the 4 team CFP? If not, just a misunderstanding. If so, I'm just curious who you thought were more deserving in those seasons.

I do think they would have gotten in over TCU/Baylor in 2014 based on name recognition.
Same goes for Oklahoma.
ND and Oklahoma put more butts in seats and more eyeballs on TV sets. I would say same about Nebraska, USC, Texas in similar scenario.
