Lincoln Riley really robbing everybody

The funniest thing is that he still actually acts like he expects people to believe that the deal came into place in just a few hours after the last game. I say acts like because he is not a stupid person, he knows no one with any sense believes it.
DeMarco Murray even shouted "bullshit!" during Riley's farewell address to the team (which lasted just several minutes). The guy took a great offer to move to USC in the worst possible way he could do it. I could live with if he had actually gotten the offer out of the blue but the whole world could see Riley was mailing it in last season and even the players are talking about it now that they're out of the program and can't be penalized for discussing Riley and Grinch's flaccid attempt to hide their intentions of leaving. I don't believe for a second that Castiglione or Stoops were "surprised" when a fan sitting up in the stands could see something was about a half a bubble out of balance. After going 1-3 against the SEC, the one win coming against Florida in the 2020 Cotton Bowl, Riley doubted OU's ability to hang in what many consider the nation’s premier football conference. Brent Venables isn’t scared of the SEC. In fact, as a defensive coordinator at Clemson, Venables’ record against OU’s future conference was 15-6. Now that dog’ll hunt.

I don't see the issue? Players are threatening to leave schools if they don't get "x amount" in NIL deals, so why couldn't schools offer players to see if they are interested?

Tampering is laughable when you opened the flood gates with NIL.
I would say because the transfer portal is non-binding, they should have to enter it first. Though I thought I heard that if you come back out of the portal the team doesn't have to give you your scholarship back.

We got some ''bonus butthurt'' out of Sooners fans.

I wonder what else Riley and USC will do to get Sooners panties in a twist? lol
Face them in a bowl game and beat them?

Not sure on the bold.

But on the former, from what I understand, a school can't contact a kid until they are in the portal...but there is no rule that players can't. It's turning out to be similar to the NBA.

Teams can't talk to a player under contract with another team, but their players can talk to and try to recruit other teams players all they want.

Well, the way I see it is the school can't be doing the NIL deals anyways. So the people who do those could tamper all they want, I think.

Teams aren't supposed to contact players until they are in the portal. Not unlike free agency in professional sports in that regard.

"Teams" aren't contacting players. They simply will contact their NIL agent.

From what I understand, the schools can participate in helping set up NIL deals (hence Texas apparently having one that pays their o-linemen $50k each). But the money can't be from the school.

I agree with what Riley said that if things continue as they are, there will be changes made to address some of the shenanigans. Just not sure what they can do.

USC boosters have a whole lotta money. USC is coming back in a big way.

See, that's part of the issue with it, imo.

Even if you remove NIL agents from the equation, these kids all know each other these days.

The speculation with Addison and USC is that it was Caleb Williams who contacted him.

But I'd be willing to bet that Lincoln Riley either said ''Hey, if you know any guys you think could help us, contact them'' or Caleb came to him and said ''Coach, I know this guy, I think we can get him'' and Riley said "Go for it''.

I'd be willing to bet that things like that have been done/said at virtually every school in the country.

How the hell is that any different? You know what an agent does, right?

Yeah, it's different in the same way that teams aren't supposed to contact players prior to the start of FA in pro sports, yet you have deals signed 2 minutes after FA starts.

They're not supposed to contact the agent either, but that agent isn't gonna say shit because he's looking out for his client.

The agent isn't part of the team or the school. It just like the dead recruiting period where College Coaches can go watch a recruit play another sport, cannot in any way communicate with the recruit, but they are allowed to talk to the player's coaches.

Once the NCAA allowed kid's to have NIL agents -- circumventing NCAA rules are beyond easy. Schools can recruit players from other schools without ever saying a word to the player. They can simply go thru the agent, who isn't involved with the team/school.

Welcome to College Football 2022.

Things are pretty good in the area right now, other than some tornadoes flying around this afternoon. This will be a blip on the radar in terms of OU football.

I don’t have any doubt that changes will be made.

Completely agree. I'm just not sure what they can actually do it.

Sure, USC coaches couldn't contact Addison themselves, but how do you stop Caleb Williams from contacting him (which it looks like may be what happened)? Or for that matter, what's stopping Lincoln Riley from suggesting or okaying Caleb Williams contacting him?

I'd bet my house that the vast majority of coaches across the country have said something along the lines of "Hey, if you guys know anyone who can help us and/or you'd like to play with...give 'em a call". Especially with the more elite level players. The ones who haven't done that are lying or won't be coaching that team much longer. lol

Not sure how you stop player to player recruiting.

Is it tornado season out there?
