I am watching old football games on youtube just to get through the rest of the offseason. So, what are some great games or mediocre games even, but they had players that went off the charts, but in a losing effort?

Quite the conundrum, should I go ahead and retitle this "tell me times tOSU should have won but didn't"?

Mahomes vs Mayfield. Mahomes didn’t have anything close to the supporting cast that Mayfield did but he damn near pulled off a win anyway.

2009 Clemson @ Miami (FL) was a good one.

2010 had some good ones too. USU @ OU, San Diego St @ Mizzou, AL @ Arky

The 2012 season was the shit. AL @ LSU, Stanford @ UOR, UM @ ND, UTN @ UGA, TX A&M @ LA Tech

Watched the 2nd half of Akron @ UM in 2013. Ditto for UM @ OHST in 2016.

Anthony Gordon threw for 570 yards and 9 TD's in a lost a couple years ago. I honestly still can't believe they lost.

I thought there would be more Wash State QB's on this list, but most of them put up gaudy numbers in wins, there is one that didn't though... Connor Halliday. 2013 Connor Halliday 58 of 89 for 557 and 4 TD's in a 62-38 loss to Oregon, 2014 Halliday 49 of 70 for 734 yards and 6 Td's in a 60-59 loss to Cal. In 2014 he was over 400 yards in 7 games and lost 5 of them, lol. He was my fantasy QB that year, it was nice.

He wasn't the best player in the game.

2015 National Championship game Clemson vs Alabama. Deshaun Watson

Where is that criteria? Or is 557 or 734 yards not off the charts enough for you?

If you want this to be "best statistical performance", sure. That's certainly different from "best player".

Gonna be an awful narrow and subjective list at that point.

For one of the games you listed (2013 vs Oregon):
Marcus Mariota: 23/32, 327 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 8 rush/67 yards/1 TD, QBR 94.2
Connor Halliday 58/89 557 yards 4 TDs, 4 INTs, 5 rush/-19 yards, QBR 59.4

One of Halliday's INTs was a pick six that put Oregon up 62-24 with 13 minutes left in the 4th.
After the pick six and starters were pulled, Halliday added 2 TDs and ~150 passing yards.
No one in their right mind would claim Halliday was the best QB in the game, let alone the best player.

Sorry didn't mean to rile your homer feathers.

How about the Washington St vs Cal game?

Ones where Iowa lost

2002 Iowa vs Iowa State
2009 Iowa vs Northwestern

Ones where Iowa won

2005 Capital One Bowl - Iowa vs LSU (2004 season)
2017 Iowa vs Ohio State

Not an upset but best player was probably on losing team

2003 Iowa vs Miami OH (Ben Roethlisberger's only loss that season)

You lost all credibility the moment you brought up 2013 vs. Oregon.
It's obvious you just looked for stats without doing any real digging into what happened in the game.

I'll take Peyton Manning in the Tennessee v Florida game 1997 too.
