NCAA Rumored To Be Coming Out With New NIL Guidelines- People Aren't Happy

I think the SEC office would be ecstatic for you guys to win it all join AL, UGA, AU and LSU as recent national champs. I would even argue it’s better for the league overall for new blood to win.

You guys just don’t seem to be able to put it together.
There's always next year, sir.

About 20 years ago a bunch of us got hit when the IRS suddenly disallowed some specialized oil & gas writeoffs that our counsel argued were legitimate. The IRS bastards forced us to go to court where we lost the case. I'm still P.O.'d about it because it affected a bunch of our investors who had trusted me not to mislead them about something as important as writeoffs for big investments. I had been shown case law proving the veracity of the writeoffs before we advised using them but you know what can happen in the legal system. A bunch of haters from the IRS (who admitted to us privately they didn't like fossil fuels) and a prick judge did a job on us. The tax code is about as cut and dried as a gypsy rodeo if the IRS ever decides to get shitty about things.
Key words in that paragraph are “specialized” and “case law”. Key words that are missing are “tax code implicitly says”.

I don’t know the specifics but everything you wrote leads me to believe you guys were pushing the envelope especially when you lost in court. If there was true case law to your specific circumstances it would be hard for the IRS to win. On the bright side a lot people learned what not to do from your case.

Damn, GB. That reference tells me you are a fellow hick! :beer2:
Yup! Son of Oklahoma dirt farmers who also raised cattle. Worked in the oil patch to pay for my too fast and too expensive cars. Did a couple of tours in the Marines. Came home and started college and by the time I had 3 degrees I had been educated far beyond my intelligence. Still believe Old School is best and I am about as far from woke as you can get. And I'm afraid they're gonna F up college football so bad I won't be able to enjoy it if they aren't careful.

Now you've added another term to gypsy rodeo. We'll have to come up with a Hick Dictionary equivalent to the Urban Dictionary so these young, button up, millenial city slickers will understand!

Spent the day with several of my teenage grand kids this weekend. I learned "fire" doesn't mean that hot stuff or pull the trigger like I thought it did. I heard more than once "Poopaw, you need to get up to date." I told the little smart asses that Beatniks and Hippies invented their own language way before this shorthand texting crap.

An example would Texas OL and DL who won’t be making 50K a year through the booster fund they created.
did not know that the DL had the same deal as the OL

BTW it's a legit deal.. one that wouldn't catch the eye of the NCAA

I'm guessing contributions to all these "collectives" is tax deductible?
Some yes, some no. My guess is that the more they push the non-profit, the more scrutiny they are going to get.

How is that a legit deal ... the fact that every players gets the same amount of money would be indicative that it has no relation to any market, or any individual's name, image or likeness. In fact, I am guessing one clarification they make quickly is the whole everyone gets $X is going to be prohibited. Yes, all OL can get all they can eat at Sonny's BBQ because that is legit marketing. But, I am going to give all OL and DL $X is the definition of pay to play.

with there being no real NIL rules during 2021, you have to put an asterisk next to UGA's natty

its as legit as Michigan's 1997 title
That’s two asterisks. They also failed to win the SEC.

It's to be the faces for charity events.. hell Derrick Johnson is teaming up with them for his cause.. (building/helping libraries in underserved locations). They aren't just getting 50k to get 50k, they all have obligations outside of the field

FWIW, I am all for these types of deals. It's pay for play, no doubt. But there is a legit aspect to it where they are already on campus. The problem it may run into is the fact that all get paid the same. The 3rd string OL gets the same as the AA OL. Depends on how far the NCAA wants to go.

These kids don't play for the schools. They play for the collectives.

There ain’t nothing legit about that when the deal is in place before anyone hits campus. That will be one of the first things targeted.
