Lincoln Riley really robbing everybody

Honestly, I'm really interested to see what happens at USC these next couple of seasons. One of the best storylines in 2022.

Me too. lol

So far, so good with Riley. There is a ton of excitement and momentum around the program and everything looks like it's buttoned up and it looks like Riley and his staff know what they're doing.

However, one thing that Sooners fans are correct about is that Riley's only HC experience was taking over a program that was already rolling so he just needed to not make any big mistakes.

Now, he has had to rebuild a program. Everything looks good so far, but they haven't played a game yet, so we won't know for sure until that happens.

The biggest problem you will have is your D and watching Grinch with his bullshit "Speed D" where he has DB's playing 5 yards off the receivers. Watching your opposition consistently catch 10-12 yard passes on 3rd down on routes run to the sideline will get old. Seriously, Grinch is a horror show. I don't know about Riley to be honest. He completely fell apart last season and Oklahoma had been on a downward trajectory for 3 years. But I'd tend to believe the Trojan offense will score enough points for you guys to be dangerous. The biggest issue on offense, if Riley hasn't changed, is his playing not to lose in tight games rather than keeping the pedal to the metal. We're all going to be watching every game USC plays this season to see if Good Lincoln or Bad Lincoln is walking the sideline in LA.

It doesn't help when Riley takes 65% of the Scholarships for his Offense either.

So far, I have no complaints as they seem to be addressing both sides of the ball and have addressed some of the issues with USC's defense (specifically the d-line and linebackers). Hopefully, that means that Riley has learned about being too "offense-centic" in his recruiting.

What could help is that, with his offense, Riley won't have to work very hard to attract top offensive talent to USC, so he can concentrate, or maybe better stated, allow Grinch to concentrate, more on recruiting for the defense.

He's done a pretty big overhaul on the roster already and says more is coming, so it's definitely going to be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.
He has the exact same football philosophy as Mike Leach
Yup. "Ladies and Gentlemen, here is a final score from the West Coast. Oregon 63 USC 61. Heisman Trophy candidate Caleb Williams threw for 5 touchdowns, 4 in the second half but the Ducks came back in the final quarter and put the Trojans away with just 1 minute to go". Don't think it's possible? Then you didn't watch many OU games the past 5 years. :tsk:

Riley needs a good O-Line for his offense. OU was best when you had that monster O-Line. JMO.

Then again, everyone needs a good O-Line.

True but USC should be pretty good offensively. The real issue is fixing that defense from last year.

That may be a problem. OU's defense wasn't all that great last year....and they had five, 5, cinco defensive players drafted. So one could deduce it was from lack of coaching. The NFL thinks nearly 1/2 of your defense is good enough to draft and yet it wasn't real good? I think Wall Street would says those stocks underperformed.

USC has enough talent in the area, they'll be fine on Defense.
I don't see them not cranking it up.

Bob Stoops had a blind spot with his idiot brother Mike. Muleshoe apparently has one with Alex Grinch who can't coach a dog to scratch. What should be an A rated defense at USC will be another C.

Well... we'll have to wait and see how it "plays out". Maybe the change of scenery for Riley and that "Grinch dude" will help...

His history will be: at first USC will show improvement, the second season he will start reverting back to his old habits of prevent defense and soft coverages in spite of the talent level he has on the field (trusting the O to win close games) and by the third year people will have figured him out and the D will start failing at critical times. The guy isn't bright or particularly talented at developing players. Your 5* will play like a 4*, your 4* will play like a 3* and so on........ It got so bad at OU we were seeing some very good talent go through the program with very mediocre results. But no matter what the results are, Muleshoe loves the guy so just get ready to live with whatever you end up with. Pray for your O because you're gonna live or die with the O with Grinch running the D.

I don't honestly know how good we'll be on defense this year. But I will say that with the talent they have brought in, it would be hard not to improve over last year. It looks like depth will be an issue for the defense though. Especially in the front 7.

Some Sooners fans apparently don't think that coaches can learn from past mistakes or that their philosophies never evolve.

Things may well play out as some say...but to act like it's some pre-determined outcome is more about butthurt than actual analysis.

We saw 5 years of their act. 5 years. The program was on a downward trajectory for the past two years. We still can't believe you don't see any of that. Good luck. We're not butthurt. We're just smiling about when you finally realize what you have for coaches now. Maybe that "change of scenery" is all they needed? :meh:

lol

Didn't realize that 5 years constituted an entire career.

No one has said there is no chance that things won't turn out as you say.

But the fact that some of you act like no other outcome is possible is a lot of butthurt and very little objective analysis.

As bad as you all talk about him, it seems that you should be thanking USC. You all claim that you're better off with Venables, yet you all still cry like scorned women over Lincoln Riley.

Oregon isn’t letting USC keep it that close 😉
