Saban takes a MASSIVE shot at Jimbo.

True. Ironically, you're supporting what Saban said in his cross-legged diatribe. Until the NCAA gets legal protection and more teeth, it can't do much.
However, I'm sure they're working on it.
NCAA is a dead org walking. There will be a new oversight committee that needs to be set up. As for Saban, if he is right I have no issue with that. But until someone says what the limits are to NIL, he needs to stop calling out others. His message can be right but singling out people also is shitty.

But no, they want to be alibammy.

Most Bammers are miserable they just don't realize it.

They can win a national championship and not be happy because they weren't undefeated.
When they didn't win last year there were tons of them running around saying Saban had lost his touch.
They only play like two competitive games during the regular season now and sometimes that includes the playoffs. Who wants to watch all those blowouts? I quit watching their games years ago and only flip if I see the game is close because they aren't good games.

15% of the Bammer nation are alumni and have the right attitude but 85% of them never took a class and most haven't stepped foot in the stadium. Guess which one's are the loudest and most annoying? I've told people for years show me an obnoxious Auburn fan and then look to see if they had a Bammer Daddy or Grandfather and that percentage is super high. They learn this shit young.

Probably not the case with Bama fans that have been fans more than the last 15 years.

It wasn't as simple as that.

I agree that the full context of the quote wasn't as bad as it has been portrayed.

The problem is that he called out Jimbo, and to a lesser extent, Deion Sanders pretty directly. He straight said that they ''bought'' players which has always meant cheating.

He should have done what he has always done when he has cried about things he doesn't like in cfb, but said it without naming anyone, but with everyone knowing who he's talking about...then going out and doing the same thing.
6 months ago it would have meant cheating. In today's NIL world, something he had been talking about for 5 minutes when he said what he said, it was clear he meant that buying players in the context of unlimited NIL was unsustainable. Look, I hate defending the midget, but what he said wasn't at all controversial in context. ATM, using NIL right or wrong, did buy that class. Everyone knows that. And if we really want CFB where ATM is going to drop 30 million every year, that's going to change the sport. Maybe that's a good thing, maybe it isn't. But you will in fact be buying players if you can drop 30 million a year.

And before anyone says I am envious, etc. I really am not. I assure you that UGA will buy their share of players if this is the way it is going to be. We won't sit on the sidelines. And yes ATM has a lot of money but so do most schools.

He would never do that because it opens the door to people asking questions about his program.

Jimbo didn’t handle this well but this is the second time his language has a vailed threat that he has knowledge Saban doesn’t want known.

Jeremy Pruitt made similar comments to back Kirby off at one point.

I can promise you none of these guys wants anyone looking into their programs.
The threat in what he is saying is to tell ATM to back off - no one wants to know how the sausage is made. Of course none of them want this out in public.

Maybe after 4 or 5 it won't be, but until then...yes.
Yeesh ... I would need a shower if I won a natty because, and only because we were able to spend $30 million a year. Where is your pride?

The money being spent right now isn't sustainable IMO but I don't think the NCAA or the government need to pass any rules. It will self regulate when boosters get tired of spending 30 Million Dollars on recruits only to see their team in the Duke's Mayo Bowl
I tend to agree with this because I don't think just spending money is enough. I think the dysfunction that might arise due to kids who are only there because they are getting paid could cause problems. This is sort of the one and done issue in hoops ... is a group of mercenaries better than a group of kids around for 3 years that really want to be where they are.

Of course they will find money, but they won't outspend A&M.
How does it feel to know that your alma mater can't stand on its own to attract players who want to come to the school without being paid millions. I mean you are basically saying, we can't compete by offering a great education and college experience ... we have to go out and buy our team. That must be kind of a sad realization.

lol man.. glass houses and all.. But you are describing UGA under Smart too.

Spending vast sums to win a CFB NC while screaming "our school is dubious and our alumni have pathetic priorities in life" seems like a bad long-term investment. In fact, it's an investment in destroying CFB. Give it to your students and research - you dumb fucking rednecks!

Bama has been dominant. Do you think America looks at that university with respect? FSU in the 90s? Fucking gross Ohio State? Now aTm wants to be looked at as a dumb hick football school?

What's wrong with people? They go overboard with the bread and circuses distractions and ruin things for everyone else.
I've managed $ for rich people for 30 years. The one message I've delivered that entire time is "Just because you can doesn't mean you should."
I get your point and agree what they are doing is absurd, but you are over the top on the vitriol about the Bama, FSU and tOSU. They are all fine schools that do a great educating people. Hell, FSU has flown up the list of top schools even if you don't want to admit it. Bama has totally redone itself since they started winning ... the level of kids that go to Bama these days would surprise you. And tOSU has been a very good state school for many decades.

ATM will be fine as an academic institution doing what they are doing. I just think as an alumnus it wouldn't be as fun knowing we can only win by buying it.

You serious? I mean we did what everyone else is doing ... build facilities, beef up staff, pay coaches. But we haven't gone out and dropped $30 million on players, yet. Texas has done everything we have done, you just don't do it very well.

The one making it public is the one you think is telling A&M to not make it public.

$30M is the internets number.
And pride? :rolleyes2:

Yeah, we never were high in recruiting before NIL. :L

Yup, UGA won with kids who only wanted to get an UGA education. No bag men at all. Didn't go where the best scholarship was. "only win buying it". Gag me.

Apparently, Saban was talking to a room full of boosters during basically what amounts to a fundraiser and someone in the room recorded it and shared it with reporters. Saban never intended for this to go national, he was rallying the boosters for fundraising.

Came back to bite him in the ass.
He isn't that stupid. What he said is what everyone else is thinking. He has zero fucks to give. He knew it was going to get out.

Dude, huge difference in the old bagman and hundred dollar handshake and you guys paying out $30 million. One thing everyone was doing, including you. No one else is shelling out $30 million, yet.

And I'm done with this thread. Not going to sit here and discuss a situation where Saban knew it both would get out and had no idea it would get out.
