Saban takes a MASSIVE shot at Jimbo.

I am a fan of NIL-light. I think there should be additional money included in scholarships or some small ability from licensing fees for players to have spending money around the campus and not worry about finances. They have earned that. Sure, they get a free ride but keep in mind that some of these players can come from a background where they may have difficulty paying day-to-day expenses not covered by scholarship (I know most items are covered but stuff comes up).

I am also a fan of some kind of player's insurance to cover them and give them pay-outs for injuries.

I just wonder who will be the Billy Beane of NIL and try to moneyball this bitch.

I clearly stated we were talking about academics and you vomit up these football stats..

The post did NOT indicate that but I will take your word on it because I probably didn't read the full chain.

Academic rankings are a joke anyways. Two of the biggest measurements of academics is high nice your library is (no joke, law schools get accredited or not accredited based on the law library) and how many research papers/grants your professors have written.

Keep in mind some of these professors that write great research papers/treatises are horrible teachers but that is NOT factored at all.

Typically schools have 3-4 programs they specialize in. A classic example is Vanderbilt. Tennessee and Tennessee Tech are better Engineering schools than Vanderbilt but Vanderbilt would blow anyone in Tennessee away with most Bachelor of Arts degrees or Business degrees.

You also want to pick a school based on what you plan to study. I knew someone that went to Vanderbilt for an education degree and it was a waste of money because they could have gone to MTSU for a fraction of the price and they were basically working the same job and making the same salary as an MTSU education graduate.

Texas A&M was known, several years back, as the best school in the country from a bang-for-your-buck perspective. (Basically your money was best spent going to Texas A&M when you considered the jobs the graduates got after college).

And him saying he didn't mean to single anybody out was total BS.

See, I kind of disagree a little on that one.

I think he doesnt like NIL, had just been outrecruited because of NIL, was pissed off about it and found himself in front of microphones before he was ready and his mouth got away from him.

So, I think he mostly said what he intended to say. But I dont think he intended to name names.

Barry Switzer is in charge of a lot of the NIL related stuff. And Castiglione has put together a group of really good people to help fold everything into place by teaming up with third parties to develop OU's NIL program. I've not seen anything to make me believe they aren't on top of it. And the $$ will be there when it's needed. As for recruiting, OU needs to play well this season and everything will take care of itself. We have gotten commitments from some good prospects but it's still early. OU just needs to have success quickly and a lot of things will take care of themselves.
they aren't buying it.. they are aiming to begin to pay those players this fall, lets see if they do.
I just wonder who will be the Billy Beane of NIL and try to moneyball this bitch.
Saban?
Seeing the SEC argue over who's the bigger cheater in the world of NIL is hilarious.
lol just as I saw this I saw a tweet that Kirby said that recruitments shouldn't be determined by the highest bidder lol

He doesn't like change. He obviously had a recruiting system in place and NIL screwed it all up. He's probably thinking he is too old to start over and build a system for how to entice the best players to want to go to his school.

Did he say it should instead be determined by who he likes the best and that you can be a highly prized recruit and he will still bench you and let his defense win games?

He's a stupid boomer. EVERYTHING is recorded these days, especially in a room with that many people. Everything can and will go viral. I bet Riley would have understood this.
Yep.

Going back to the topic in the OP, I was really scratching my head at Saban's comments but then discovered that he spoke these words at an Alabama booster event and it was leaked to media. That makes more sense now. The intention was that these words were never intended to leak out to the public.

They are accepting students at fast rate. The plan was to make sure that they have the largest student enrollment. With that you increase the odds that some of them strike lightning and become huge moguls that donate to the school. Kids that normally went to Tech or even UH are now going there.

My best friends nephew got accepted to UT (and McCombs business school), however aggy offered him a full scholarship to their business school. He's been at aggy for 3 years now.

It's a really good school, that isn't hard to get into it.. and I'm not mad about it at all. Love seeing kids being able to continue their education at a top school.

Eh, it depends on what school you want to get into. When I was there they cracked down on the business school and it was damn near impossible to transfer into. jacked the GPA to transfer in from 2.0 to 3.5. Funny thing is I had been accepted to the engineering school which was supposed to be much harder to get into, but couldn't get to the Lowry Mays school. Vet school is getting easier to get into because there is such a growing need since people are getting out of that industry.

@fordman84 do you think that the other coaches in the conference will now take shots at y'all? People have made it clear to me that SEC is the original schools not Arkansas, SCe, y'all and Mizzu. Is this the part where they force y'all to kiss the ring?

yeah my oldest baby is dead set on going there.. She wanted nothing to do with Lubbock when we visited. She is interested a bit by LSU because our family vet at Mainland went there and talks it up to her. She dropped band and going to be raising a goat this fall for Dickinson. She also is volunteering at the SPCA this summer.

Told her as long as she keeps passing her AP classes with As, she shouldn't have an issue

No I don't think it will come to that. I'd imagine the rest of the teams are more interested in seeing Bama get kicked in the pants than they are worried about tenure.

Dodged a bullet there with tech. Gag!
If she hasn't worked as a vet tech, I'd highly recommend that. I too was on track to be a vet until I did that one year. Just make sure she is eyes wide open!

Apparently, Saban was talking to a room full of boosters during basically what amounts to a fundraiser and someone in the room recorded it and shared it with reporters. Saban never intended for this to go national, he was rallying the boosters for fundraising.

Came back to bite him in the ass.

It is like when the Heat had that party when they got Lebron and the not 1, not 2....stuff got out and Heat fans all said...he didnt know he was being recorded because it was just supposed to be for Heat season ticket holders. lol

The subtle word around the Oklahoma people is we don't actually want to move ASAP. Seems the $$ is a minor factor but we've come into more revenue than was expected even a year ago so that isn't really the hangup. (Keep in mind that Joe Castiglione, our AD, is kind of a tightwad and has a great record at controlling costs so OU doesn't waste a lot of money so every dollar spent is stretched as far as possible.) Everyone wants to be positioned before the jump is made so the odds of being immediately successful are improved. The football program is obviously in a transition. And other sports are working overtime to get their act together even better. This is helluva jump for Oklahoma. If we can pull off some immediate success in the SEC it will do wonders for the alumni and fan's morale.
What do you define as success?

I don't see immediate impacts in football, basketball or baseball. If you want those titles you are going to have to work extremely hard to get them.

You guys are going to get a shot of reality when you join the SEC, especially in football because you've never played a schedule that was loaded with Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia and Florida. All of those teams have won national Championships in the modern era and none of them lay down. Then you have Texas A&M, Tennessee and soon-to-be Texas so you are going to play a schedule that is going to grind your team down and make depth so important you will know the names of all your second-team players because they will have to play.

You guys are convinced because you have had some success in bowl games against the SEC that you are ready for what is coming but forget that when you have won most of the time you were the top team out of the B12 and were playing maybe the third-best team in the SEC. When you guys played Auburn we have had one running back left who was at maybe 70% and our QB (who wasn't great) broke his arm on the first drive (which he scored on). An SEC schedule is a meat-grinder you have never experienced and especially in the west so hopefully, we will go to pods and make it somewhat manageable.

In basketball, it's gotten almost as bad.

In baseball in the last 14 years the SEC has won the national championship 7 times and been the runner-up the other 7.

You really think it will be that high and unlimited. What, you going to drop $30 million every year? SMH.
They will. We need to enlighten you on aggies. They don't think like the rest of us. Remember, this is the same place that has things such as midnight yell practice, milkmen for cheerleaders, a band that believes in straight lines and Silver Taps. Dinero es facil.

People need to be careful in this new day and age....LOL.
