12 Team CFP Autopsy

You’re free to disagree with me and be wrong, I just don’t understand why anyone would want to do that.

It is a little funky. So, the four first round byes got $8 million each without winning a CFP game. $4 million for making it and $4million for second round games.

If my old West Texas arithmetic is correct:

B1G got $16 million for four teams making the CFP (Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana). $12 million for three teams playing in round two. (Oregon, Penn Stat and Ohio State) $12 million for Two teams making the semis (Penn State, Ohio State) and $6 million for Ohio State making the finals. B1G total of $46 million/18 = $2.55 million. Adds up.

SEC - $8+$8+$6+$0=$22 million Have no idea how they distributed it.

ACC - $8+$0+$0+$0=$8 million/2= $4 million each. Adds up.

Big 12 - $4+$4+$0+$0=$8 million/16= $500,000 each. Adds up

MWC - $4+$4+$0+$0=$8 million No idea.

SEC's payout per team was $3M for first round, $3.5M for Quarters, $3.75 for Semis, $4M for NCG. Not quite the full payout the ACC gives but close.

- So Texas was 3 + 3.5 + 3.75 = $10.25M
- Georgia apparently only got credit for the Quarters since they got a first round bye: $3.5M (I think if I'm the Georgia AD i argue that my payout should be $6.5M for making the Quarters)
- Tennessee got a flat $3M for first round.

How can you deem them “uncontrollable” if I’ve never tried to control them? Someone didn’t think this through.

It’s still being played every year but really the easy fix is just moving it up a week or two with a 16 team playoff format
Moving it up by a few weeks is much more palatable than playing in early Sept which is what some were promoting

Hey bud! I have been a witness to about 50% of those life choices. Don't take that fun away from me!

Prolly going to 16. Money wins over quality. Look at the other 4 teams for this years 16 team field. Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss and S. Carolina. But the $ signs will win. If it eliminates the byes, then good. Byes don't belong in playoffs.
Yeah, most years there won’t be close to 16 teams that could win it. But money wins out and it means more football too. Which I’m 100% for.

I was under the impression they already agreed to payout structure no matter which teams make it. Example, I thought the SEC/B1G was making $21 million per team, the ACC $13 million per and the B12 $12 million per. But that doesn’t start until 2026 I see now.

Conference will still get to decide how to distribute it. I understand sharing most of it. But damn, reward the ones that played in the thing.

Agreed and I think most will do that. Especially at the autonomous 4 level. (Save a divided ACC)

Of the 8 playoff games only 2 finished within 1 score. 3 were blowouts.

It was clunky and punished conference winners while rewarding also rans.

The championship game was on a Monday night in a bad spot on a busy day.

I am not going to blame any team for winning by more than one score, and I am not going to criticize any team for losing by more than one score. We (Michigan) was not invited to play in the playoffs ... justifiably so.

The Monday Night game was badly timed, but it was two legendary teams. It should have had higher ratings.
