Teaser trailer for this upcoming Yellowstone spinoff to premiere on Sunday, December 18, 2022, on Paramount+ starring Harrison Ford:

I'm not entirely sold on Harrison Ford.

Is this series going to be a steep dropoff? My expectations are low.
It's good.

You will like it. It captures the era perfectly and it builds off 1883 really well but you do have to pay attention to who is who and this will help:

Once you figure out who is a direct descendant of who it works well.

The wife and I just binge-watched 5 episodes of 1923 and 10 episodes of 1883.

We enjoyed them both.

So far so good, but I like the storyline of Spenser in Africa better than "back home". The range war etc seems
a bit cliche and I'm pretty sure was already done in Yellowstone. Harrison Ford is good but not great, Helen Mirren is the saving grace of that storyline IMO. The rest of the "ranch" cast is kind of meh, though Timothy Dalton does play a good villain/asshole as usual. The actors who played them did a good job of making the priest and nuns very hateable.

Of the 3 storylines going on I'd rate them
1. Spenser in Africa
2. Teonna and how natives were treated.
3. The ranch/range war.

Feel about the same.

A major part of why this came to be was #2.

Spenser seems to be the kind with solid vengeance skills. I do hate his new wife though, she's too soft for him.

The nun v. indian saga is horrifying and interesting all at once. Probably my favorite story lines.

The big wonder I have is if Spenser of Jake will be the sperm donor for grandpa Dutton (lineage of modern John Dutton).

Pretty sure it's Jack (he has a kid on the way), he's the son of John Dutton Sr, Grandson of James Dutton (Tim McGraw). If he was born in 1923/24 and died in the mid-late 90's (right before Rip came to Yellowstone I think) that would have put him in his 70s so would make sense.

Very disappointed in the Season Finale as it felt like we needed at least two more episodes this season because there are way too many cliffhangers. The least they could do is get Spencer to Montana before shutting the season down.

That kid on the way is not the sperm donor.

It was terrible

This was a major disappointment. Taylor Sheridan has had the golden touch with most of this stuff but this was meh

Finished it up last night. Was disappointed in it. I think it has a lot of potential. And I kinda like the overall characters more than the other shows. But it was just so damn slow. I didn't even realize it was the last episode until a while after I finished.

It kind of seemed at times they were more interested in showing how much life was different back in 1923 than the actual storyline.
