We are in EDT not EST.

EDT = Eastern Daylight Time. a.k.a. Daylight Saving's Time.

EST (Eastern Standard Time) doesn't start until Nov 6, 2022.

Yes, the cities and states stay the same distance apart you are correct. But the actual TIME changes but an hour no matter where you are in the US, except those few places I called out.
