March Madnes 2021 NCAA Tournament

Is Kansas' time done at the top of the Big12?
In their defense they were easily the odds on favorite to win the NC last year before covid hit. Hard to say they are done after 1 rebuilding year.

I've always thought they over seed the ACC but I don't think it's on purpose.
I agree none of it is on purpose...it just happens. While we all like to think we can be totally unbiased, we are all human and our minds have history in them. Perception and past performance is there whether intentional or not. And "recency" helps even more.

Virginia and Texas Tech may have gotten seeded higher than they should have because they were the defending champs and runner up. Neither team was as good as 2019 but I promise you every member of the committee remembers 2019.

To put in perspective. Texas Tech went 9-9 in Big 12 play if you include the tournament. Oregon went 15-5 if you include the tournament. Texas Tech got a 6 and Oregon got a 7. The Big 12 wasn't that much better than the PAC 12. I don't buy it and after last night, I know USC doesn't either.
True but they didn't get to play ISU and TCU but once so it would have probably been 11-9 but that really doesn't matter.

I've said Tech and Virginia were over seeded this year.

On the other hand, which of those nine conference losses by Tech were bad ones?

They weren't bad losses but I think the committee focuses too much on "good losses". Give me teams that win a lot of games. Teams winning over 75% of their conference games in a major league shouldn't be getting 6 or 7 seeds.

My point wasn't that Texas Tech was overseeded. It was that USC and Oregon were underseeded.

Yup.

And its why I love the tournament so much.

It's like I said in the thread yesterday. Even though we all wanna win as many games as possible, unless your team is a blue blood its hard to get mad at what happens in such a toss up of a tournament.

Now obviously if you happen to be a fan of team/coach that consistently no matter what seed you get, they are bounced opening weekend. Then yeah that would be annoying.

But the gist of college basketball is always the same. Schedule some good teams, hopefully beat some of them, hope your conference plays well, get into the dance. Then see what happens.

Sometimes it sucks for certain teams and leagues, but games in November gotta mean just as much as those in February.
Yep. There really were only a few blow outs. Most games were good games and could have gone either way. Need a little good fortune to make it through.

I'll take winning teams too. And Oregon and USC were underseeded but only because of the bottom of the PAC, not because they aren't good.

But, I'll also take teams that stay in all games/have a chance to win and don't take any bad losses. Every Tech loss this year was to a tournament team. OOC loss was to Houston. And the only losses that weren't really close were to Baylor. But, to be fair, they also won some close ones as well. And their tourney loss was a close one as well.

I like the committee rewarding teams that play tough schedules. That was hard to accomplish this year.

Sad note

Oscar Frayer F Grand Canyon passed away today from injuries he received in a car accident. Frayer scored 8 pts in GCUs first round loss on Saturday. A few short days later he's gone. RIP

Watched the short video, feel terrible for the family. RIP.

LOL. Pitino is back to coaching and coaching in the NCAA tournament....NCAA has yet to punish him. Kansas ain't getting punished, nor are any of these schools.
I really and truly thought Pitino was done on the last one. Is Larry Brown in the Sweet 16? j/k :L

One thing I noticed, there's no stagger to Sweet 16 this year.

It's 10 straight hours with 30 minute breaks between games too.

Especially those late Saturday games aren't the most marquee.

I don't like that, but it is what it is...

It will suck if one of the games turns into a blowout and there's nothing else on

I believe that Arkansas over Oral Roberts and Gonzaga over Creighton will both be blow outs. When teams are favored over 8 or 9 points there's always the potential for a big blow out.
