March Madnes 2021 NCAA Tournament

Phil Marteli as an assistant coach was a home run hire

Yeah it was. And Howard has been great with recruiting so far. Which I think was most people's concern coming in. As it is with most nba people going to college.

I guess. But out east here, most of our sports bars aren't allowed to operate past 10 or 12 because of Covid restrictions. So you're talking about cutting that business/viewership right there. And given it's a work day, most people aren't going to stay up until 12:30am to finish the game, especially lacking connection to it.

Bars are of minimal concern as they're still not allowing people to sit at the bar where I'm at.

This is how they normally do the Sweet 16. 1st slot at 7 then 2nd game after 1st game ends.

So they're just following that

Agreed, but 4 of his 6 best players were brought in after he got there with Wagner, Dickinson, Brown and Smith. And Brooks was a seldomly used role player. Nobody thought this roster was going to win the B1G regular season or make the E8. He's done a great job.
Wagner was a legacy recruit + I don't really give coaches credit for grad transfers.

and i'm guessing one summer under Howard wasn't what caused Brooks to from a 2.5 PPG guy to a double digit scorer.

this is only his second year, so sorry, I don't buy it.

As far as the whole TV scheduling aspect, they scheduled these with brands on their minds IMO. Michigan is a huge brand, UCLA basketball is a huge brand. I think it makes sense that it's the later the game. If this were a normal season this is the 5:00 tip on Sunday, and is the last E8 game of the weekend. Basically what MSU/Duke was in 2019 with Zion. I'd prefer the games to start at 7:00 and 9:30 much like the conference tournaments are, but I get the need for the pregame show before hand, and the time in between. CBS/TBS essentially have 7:00-12 midnight blocked off as opposed to 6:00-11:00 pm.

That's fine, we can disagree on that. I don't think they'd be where they are without Brown and Smith though. They are important pieces for Michigan.

Wagner opened his options back up after Beilein left. Howard had to essentially re-recruit him. Now he's the best nba prospect in the conference and might be a top 10 pick. He walked into a great situation with having 5/6 holdovers from the Beilein era, so the culture was still there. But still even in his 2nd year, there has been alot of roster turnover for the better.

lmao, bro, that was essentially my initial post on this topic

Yeah, but only 2 of them remain on this current roster in Livers and Brooks, at least notable ones. Guys like Davis, Johns and Nunez aren't big contributors on this team. And Livers hasn't played in the tournament. My point was those holdovers are doing more for culture purposes than actual on the court purposes, if you believe in that type of thing. 4 of the best 6 players on the team were brought in by Howard.

We'll see what next year brings assuming nobody uses the 5th year option because it'll be a completely different roster with Wagner, Brooks, Smith, Brown and Livers all leaving.

can't wait to watch them in the NIT next year. High Point takes them out in the opening round

9 central 10 eastern time start time for arkansas/baylor makes a lot of sense for a monday night

How neat would an Oregon State Arkansas semifinal be?

Houston already has 6 offensive rebounds..

Not looking good for the Beavs right now

Can we send Baylor and Arkansas to a different arena and start the game in like half hour?
