2022/23 PAC-12 Power Rankings (Week 5)

you still talking about last years games with different players and different staff?

Sure...

With some of this season's Lanning/Lupoi 72nd ranked Total Defense and 98th ranked Scoring Defense thrown in there. It's like Kirby and Muschamp aren't around anymore to hold Lanning's hand.

On the other hand Utah is 6th ranked in Total Defense and 10th ranked in Scoring Defense.

You wouldn't know those things if you weren't in the scenario village bubble known as Eugene though.

Still wouldn't have USC #1.

While they have remained unbeaten, the last 2 weeks have shown that they aren't completely gelled yet. They also need to address the slow starts by the defense.
Saw the game vs ASU.....they looked sluggish.

I think USC has the best QB, and Stanford's is good, but it's not head and shoulders better than JDL, but our WR's are a lot more talented than what they have over there.

Our defense certainly needs work, but we are ranked 93rd in total defense, while Stanford is 110.

I know, I know...difference in opponents. But Cal and Miss State have a good offense, as does NDSU. Colorado is just shit.

These next 5 games for Arizona will really be a proving ground. I'd be happy with 3 wins all year, so I'm not expecting much, but picking off ONE of these 5 would be great for the program.

Next 5 games for Zona:
vs. #12 Oregon
at #21 Washington
vs #6 USC
at #11 Utah
at #18 UCLA

Brutal.

Cal doesn't have a good offense...it just looked like they did vs. Arizona. You're putting too much of an emphasis on Stanford's stats vs. significantly better opponents IMO. Is Arizona going to fair better than Stanford did against UO, Huskies and USC? I guess that's what we will see in the next 3 games.

If instead of playing 3 ranked opponents, Stanford played SDSU, Cal and Colorado, their stats would look a lot better. And they wouldn't be any better than they are now

That's the beauty of it all. One day we'll know for sure, but I really don't think Stanford wins 2 more games, and I could honestly see them finishing with just the 1 win they have now.

The defense has been doing that all season. They start slow, giving up a lot of big plays.

Then they come out in the 2nd half and it's like a completely different defense.

USC has the same motto as Arizona Cardinals then.

Stanford has a brutal schedule. I don't think they end up with many wins. It's going to be tough sledding for Zona, ASU, Colorado and Stanford when they aren't playing each other. Stanford misses Zona and CU and has to travel to Cal. They're probably only going to be favored against ASU so that's entirely possible.

Power rankings aren't win projections either IMO.

Oh yeah, I agree with you on the last sentence.

Really all of it, but this is all subjective, especially since everyone doesn't always play everyone else.

lol

Wasn't it you who ranked USC low in the pre-season because they went 4-8 last year?
not low just not as high as everyone else. and like you said that was preseason. we are 5 games in now. literally half way through the season after this week. Some teams already there.

But you based it off of last years team when going into this year there probably wasn't a team that changed more than USC.

USC brought in 53 new players and retained 1 coach from last year.

Yet, your reason for having them ranked lower was "they went 4-8 last year".

Seems like you may be picking and choosing when last year applies and when it doesn't.

Which is fine. But perhaps you could fill us in on when and why you apply it.

preseason used last years stats and finish yes.
so why would i have a team that had a poor finish, that did bring in new coaches and players that we dont know how well they would mesh ranked high and expect to go to the playoff?
after 5 games do i still see it that way? no. still dont think they are playoff bound. still think 9 is about the finish
should Utah have been ranked higher than Oregon at the start of the year? absolutely
based on this years results do i still see it that way? no

You having to ask that question is why no one takes Ducks fans seriously.

Let's see...they brought in one of the top 5 coaches in the country. He brought some of his coaches, hired a couple of others and kept the best coach and recruiter on USC's staff (you might remember him).

He brought a Heisman candidate at QB who was his QB last year and thus knows the system. He also brought the QB's favorite receiver and also got last year's Biletnikoff Award winner, he brought in the PAC's leading rusher from last year (you might remember him too), brought in a very good all purpose back from Stanford and a 5 star RB recruit who draws comparisons to Reggie Bush and he upgraded some positions on defense including bringing in 2 very good linebackers.

Yeah, after all of that, I can see why you would be skeptical.

i dont believe Riley is that good of a coach yet. he was handed Oklahoma playoff ready made. in his time there they declined. I wanted to see him build and sustain. seen a lot of coaches get a good team and after a few years they arent what they were. so far hes proving himself.
lot of offense he brought in and thats paying off. USC needed defense help. he wasnt exactly known for defense.
