2023 Recruiting Thread

What's up with those Microsoft clip art 90s stars Fawcett uses in all of these edits?

I was told Clemson would fall behind in the NIL world.

who said they would fall behind in the NIL world? People said Dabo's approach to the portal was going to hinder them.

I wasn't necessarily talking about this board, but there's been lots of talk and doubt on Clemson's future in the era of the portal, NIL or the way Dabo just recruits in general. And whether Clemson would start to cycle out. We're only just a few months past when lots of people were saying Clemson was on the way out. Whether it be talking heads or no names on twitter.

But @WhosYourDawggy has definitely questioned Clemson's ability to recruit and stay near the top during these days. As I'm sure have others.

I don't know if I posted it but I wondered how Clemson would do in the era of NIL and with their new coordinators. So far, they're looking very good in this 2023 cycle.

I completely get the hesitation from outsiders. With everything they lost, and poor year by their standards, it makes sense. And by no means does one month of great recruiting equal future success. But it definitely brings a lot of positive energy back to the program.

Manning to Texas

Kyle Parker committed to LSU just now, 4 star WR

Fong put in a CB for Moore to Oregon

I still do. If NIL takes off and Dabo refuses to play, that will hurt in the long run. If he refuses to get into the portal, that will hurt. That said on the portal, UGA is the only team other than a service academy that didn't take a portal player this year. If Dabo does it, but to supplement obvious needs, he can neutralize this criticism. UGA is not going to build their team and culture with transfers unless they have a hole to fill. I also think a lot of Dabo's success was having coordinators who stayed with him. Will be interesting to see how the new guys do. And, you play in the weak ACC ... not sure I see that changing any time soon unless Miami and NC State pick it up and that doesn't actually scare you much when you say that. So you have that going for you.

As to recruiting, I'd point out 3 things. (1) Yes, you need to the momentum. And you got that. (2) But, raw totals mean very little this time of year. If you look at the average for the teams likely to end up in the top 5, there are 8 teams ahead of you with LSU nipping at your heels. I don't follow your recruiting well enough to know who else you are in on, so I can't say if you go up or down but you look to be top 10, probably not top 5. And (3) your OL recruiting is still pretty bad and that is a huge need for you guys. DL looks good, not surprisingly, but OL still looks rough.

IMO, the jury is still out as to whether Dabo has adapted to the new way things are done. I actually respect him for sticking to his guns. We will find out if that translates to success.

Not bad. Seems like there's potential in Louisville with them being a bigger city without a NFL team

Clemson already has (1) NIL program specially to help players branding and reaching out to businesses (2) NIL collectives (3) Multiple players with NIL deals today. Exactly how Dabo is not using NIL like the rest of the country?
