So you gotta get to #7 before an ESPN game.

I didn't flip to ESPN the entire weekend and don't recall flipping there yet this season.

Broadcast TV is the $$$ with these new packages. ABC's powerful for the SEC, but FOX, CBS, NBC, combined all favor the Big 10 in viewership going forward.

It will totally depend on the matchup and whether or not ABC, or FOX, CBS, NBC come out on top. IIRC, in week 1, ABC had the 4 highest rated games. And last week, ABC had 3 of the top 4. Fox had 2nd, but it featured an SEC team.

ESPN will rarely be involved, especially moving forward, with the top rated, or even one of the top rated games. Out of the top 15 regular season rated games last year, only 2 were on ESPN(Texas vs. Bama & CSU vs. Colorado).

It'll be interesting this week because Nebraska and OSU are on Peacock, so we won't get numbers for that, Big Noon kinda stinks with Minnesota vs. Michigan and PSU/Illinois is going up against Bama vs. UGA.

ESPN Friday night should beat last weeks 4.2m with Miami in there. But if it ends up getting out of hand early, which is likely will, that will kill their numbers

I'd be pretty stunned if Miami/VT cleared 4.2 million. I can see Rutgers/Washington beating Miami/VT.

UGA/Bama is competing in the same time slot with Illinois/Penn St.

UGA/Bama will certainly win the numbers, but I'd think that NBC game will take some away.

Illinois/PSU is a very good game, but I think it'll get lost in the shuffle. GameDay is at Bama/UGA. BIG Noon is at UCF/CU and there's no lead in to this game because ND/UL is on Peacock, which OSU directly follows. Still will put up a decent showing, but the timeslots will kill it.

I don't know how any of it works actually. LOL

I watch ABC, FOX, CBS, NBC, with an over the air digital antenna because there's no delay and the picture's better than streaming.

How would they know what I'm watching?
I've often wondered how they come up with those numbers.

USed to be you had to opt in and then fill out surveys. We have some friends that have a TV set top box that they have to check in on because after the TV is on for an hour or so it flashes "STILL WATCHING" and they have do something. In return they get paid each month, a few bucks. Now with streaming it seems as though they would have a better way of knowing consumers of the stream. Maybe not. Maybe its all just guesswork but with millions of dollars of ad dollars on the line every day I'm sure there is a way to figure it out pretty accurately.

I would hope so. With the money you noted, I doubt either side would accept a "just pull a number out of your ass" method.

u said ppl gonna be scrambling for Peacock logins.. I was just replying.. for those games??

Re-read what I wrote. Take note of the words in bold.

"Around here everybody's scrambling to find someone with a Peacock account."

I could've added to that and included Purdue, Ohio St, and Michigan St fans as well.

Yep. Nobody cares about Virginia Tech anymore. It's pretty obvious they had a really good fucking coach for a long time that outperformed their mean. The further we get away from the Beamer era, the more impressive it becomes.

LOL at all the other conferences if the B1G and SEC are establishing the rules and the oversight.
It's dumb that two conferences have consolidated all the power, but it's where the sport is now..and the divide is only going to get worse.

Yeah they've been struggling immensely since Beamer left. Imagine telling yourself a dozen years ago they would have Vandy and Rutgers OOC and lose both.

To be fair, if you said it's gonna be Rutgers with Schiano back at the helm, I could believe that.

Yeah, that's true. But even when Schiano had them at their best, they still weren't all that close to what VT was. In the late 90's and 2000's, they were a top 15ish program. A vintage VT team blows out this current iteration of Rutgers IMO.
