Yikes. Underwhelming ballot year. Only ones that would get my vote from Modern Era are Kurt Busch and Neil Bonnett.

Rubberhead will get in, even though he’s my pick for most overrated driver of this century

I kind of feel like that honor HAS to go to Dale Jr though. And I like Dale, but no one has ever been more overrated than him...ever. I can see the argument that Kurt is overrated, but dude IS a Champion, and dude has won races in cars that honestly would definitely not have seen victory lane otherwise. He's a petulant child and a scumbag human...but the guy could wheel.

He’s a Mickey Mouse champion, he was never better than Kenseth or Edwards and basically on par with Biffle at Roush, Keselowski was schooling him at Penske, and Logano immediately made that team better, and Truex showed what the 78 could really do even before the Gibbs alliance, and Harvick pretty well schooled every at SHR.

I don’t think Jr really ever gets rated very highly. I’d argue he’s a tad bit underrated. People say he sucks because he didn’t do as good as his dad, but 26 wins is a great career(Kurt had a great career too, he typically gets ranked way higher than he should though).

That's fair.

I suppose Dale Jr was more vastly overHYPED than overrated.

I’ve seen Kurt mentioned in the same breath as Harvick and Stewart. I’ve never seen anyone put Jr in the same tier as those

Yeah, weak class.

Agree that Bonnet should already be in. Other than him, not sure who else from the modern group deserves it. Sprague dominated the Truck series for a few years but didn't do much at the top level or the Busch/Xfinity series. Biffle, Lajoie, and Burton were all "meh." Brewer was a decent crew chief but is probably better known as an analyst (that might be what gets him in). Dorton at least has a trophy named for him but nobody really cares about crew members or engineers

I'm not even sure he was overhyped. He was just that popular and in demand. His merch numbers were crazy SNF, IIRC.
He’s the most popular driver in NASCAR history. I never was a fan despite being a fan of his dad as a kid, but for someone as high profile as him, I can really only think of a couple of controversies and he did have a career that would be remembered in a much better light if he had a different last name.

Had Sr lived and retired and put his full attention into DEI, I have no doubt Jr would have been a champion

I actually think that Biffle is/was grossly *under*rated, but the stars never aligned for him. There were a couple years there when he was winning or at least running in the front for a lot of races...but the team could never quite get it together for him. I think he has as much talent as any past Champion - but when it comes to HOF i don't agree with "coulda woulda shoulda" arguments and the fact is, he never really contended for a Cup Championship and imo he really doesn't belong. Jeff Burton should never see it.

Lajoie deserves way more consideration than Sprague IMO

I lived Ricky Rudd, but I don’t see how he’s in, but Jeff Burton shouldn’t even be considered. Burton was one of the top drivers for a few stretch in the late 90’s and early 00’s, plus he’s one of the better announcers IMO.

They can’t keep adding two every season, or eventually everyone with 10 wins will get in

Ya soon Everyone withe 10 starts will be in.

As for Rudd. Didn’t he have the most consecutive starts

Pretty sure that’s Jeff Gordon, and that race Harvick was suspended for in 2002 kept him from holding the record

what Rudd did was impossible to do.
He won every year forever with a small budget team.
The Stars of today couldnt dream of doing that now.

Small budget teams of RCR, Bud Moore, Hendrick, himself and Robert Yates?

I’ll give the 26 car in the late 80’s, but he was in top equipment most of his career. Hell, he went winless for DiGard and then Bobby Allison wins about a million races in that same ride

the majority of his career was himself. When he went to yates to look around (he was selling his team) he said he had no idea what he had been racing against. Rudd is underrated not over rated in my opinion.
Also RCR wasnt all that. What made RCR was Dale Earnhardt. Bud Moore decent. Hendrick wasnt yet the Hendrick we all know nowadays but was a good team. But again most of his career was his own team (small team) Yates was by far the best team he raced for & even with the turmoil within the team, he was a threat every race when he was there.
