I think you're the only here that things Howard is a downgrade. Stats don't tell the whole story. McCord was pretty mediocre in the 3 biggest games for OSU against ND, PSU and Michigan. He lit up everyone else(statistically speaking), as he probably should given the massive talent advantage he had to work with. If you watched him at all, he missed a ton of throws, isn't very mobile, and can't make it through his progression. Howard is simply a more talented QB.

Passing Stats:

McCord - 65.8%, 3,170 yards, 9.1 YPP, 24 TDs, 6 INTs,
Howard - 61.3%, 2,643 yards, 7.4 YPP, 24 TDs, 10 INTs

Howard did run for 364 yards in 12 games. I'm don't think this was an upgrade either. Seems like a wash, at best.
