Rome wanted to be the Howard Stern of sports talk shows. I laughed heartily when this happened.

The only thing I found funnier was when Morton Downey got choked by a mic cable and hit over the head repeatedly with an ashtray
 
I remember when this happened. I think Rome was on ESPN2 which was pretty new at the time?

He was trying to be Howard Stern or something. Rome's glory days are over

There isnt a word in the English language to adequately quantify what a tool Jim Rome is. It's truly beyond my ability to grasp how, exactly, this douchebag even has a devoted following of fans, or as he refers to them (and how they refer to themselves), as "clones". If humanity ever solves the paradox of time travel, I'm traveling back to 1994 to help Everett kick his faggoty ass
 
end of the day, he wasn't wrong with the route he went. that's what sports media is, much like every other news medium. hot takes for the sake of hot takes even though you don't believe them just to get reactions.

My first (and really only) exposure to him was Rome Is Burning on ESPN which I honestly didn't dislike. I mean yeah he was a try hard but I'd seen worse. But his early shit and radio show is what sounds unbearable.

I actually remember the first time I saw the Chris Everett thing being shocked that was that same guy at the ESPN show lol

I had an acquaintance who was his neighbor in Rancho Palos Verdes back when this happened. He claims he couldn't have been a nicer guy and the TV persona was a complete act.

Rome is funny as hell man.


Every time someone gets all passionate on here and has a Bill in Syracuse moment, I think of Romey. And the value of always entertaining yourself at the expense of others.

His contributions to CBS pregame coverage were about as good of an idea as showing up to the party with a boner in sweatpants though.
 
Jay Mohr as guest host was always a great time back in the day.
