5 current/former Iowa State football staffers placed more than 6,200 bets totaling over $100k

I actually don't have issues with sports gambling that is on games you cannot influence and use with your own money. But Iowa and Iowa State just got NCAA doing a huge gambling probe and many got in trouble for a lot less. IMO, Iowa and ISU were easy targets for NCAA because the state recently legalized sports gambling. So, it probably wasn't the smartest decision on their part.

I say no athletics for five years
 
This just in, Iowa State AD Jamie Pollard says they will need to spend $20 million per year on football to be able to complete in The Big XII or may need to leave the Conference. ISU will be short of money in 2 years.

Data shows a rough estimate based on budget disparities suggests 60-70% of Division I athletic departments (approximately 210-245 schools) may struggle to sustain NIL costs at levels competitive with top programs. For those of you who wanted to change college athletics into a pro/semi-pro business, you have accomplished your goal. But the Golden Age of college athletic is past us when proud universities are going to be reduced to shaking down their students, dramatically cutting "minor" sports and selling their souls to Private Equity to raise the money that will be required to adequately fund their athletic departments. This will not end well for a lot of college sports fans.

You’re correct for many schools this is going to put them out of athletics and without them it will tough to attract students.

It’s sad what has happened.
