BK plays not to lose when he gets any kind of lead in big games.

You can go back to the 2011 champs sports bowl against FSU to see this. Shut them down defensively in first half then go away from it.blew the lead.

Did it against USC in 2019 and Book had to lead them on a 7 minute drive to burn the clock to avoid the comeback and still needed cover an onside kick to secure the win.

Mayer had a good game, but still had a couple bad drops. I think he'll be better as the year goes.

All good, see you guys in 2 weeks at Wrigley? Is this going to be another of those 1 end zone games? Either way, other than that game, I'll be cheering for that kid. Was always a class act and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he leads this team to a real bowl. I want the UW coaches to understand they fucked up by giving that position to somebody that didn't really earn it other than reputation...so I might actually not care about the Wrigley game

He was the QB coach and got promoted when they parted ways with the prior OC. He was also a former starter for ND.

It’s his second year in the role. I’d give him a C on game calling and a C- in recruiting.

I won't be at that game, if you're going, that's awesome though. Should be a really cool atmosphere, if nothing else. I think the game is at Soldier Field, not Wrigley, but I could be completely fucking that up. And yeah after that great start Mertz has cooled down some.

Some of those offensive calls were head scratchers. Yes the execution was off on some plays but I didn’t care for the design runs with this QB. He can’t do the things book could do but he reads better and isn’t afraid to pull the trigger better than Book.

The tackling was piss poor but the switch to a 3-3-5 alignment and then sticking to it was infuriating especially when the offense only mustered one 1st down in 3 consecutive possessions.
