AAC expansion

easier to add small schools for other sports kind of like how sun belt has Arlington and MAC haas like 22 affiliate members for various sports

For non revenue sports sure, I’m not sure they’ll be able to field a basketball league with that strategy.

There are going to be some ADs that are going to be in big trouble when the shit hits the fan for being asleep at the wheel.

The ones that acted fast should get a bonus.

who are you talking about? nothing has been moving fast. this all started before the season

The ADs in Conference USA that didn't get their schools in the mix when things started moving. UAB, Rice, North Texas, UTSA, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss and Marshall didn't jump ship overnight so they should have been working it hard.

got it

lets also remember that those 6 or 8 arent doomed just because they dont get an invite right now.
maybe in a year or 2 someone else decides to grab them up after all.
im sure UTEP as pointed out has never been a desirable team to the MWC but if they finish strong and have another good year next season maybe they suddenly look a little better like at last call

or maybe MW extends to a Tulsa or Texas State and a spot opens in AAC or Sun Belt.

I agree. There still might be movement at the G5 level. AACs status as the top G5 is now in question and that might cause movement

I wonder if the others have a plan or whether they’re being reactive

I would bet both options are being deployed by different schools.

I’m sure some of the schools had contingency plans in place in case of a scenario like this. Those probably acted pretty quickly.

Others saw opportunity (especially those in conference USA) and they took it. For example here locally it is being projected that UAB might double their conference payment by moving to the AAC vs what they were making in CUSA.

The ones that surprised me were Boise State and Air Force flirting and what the MWC conference agreed to do in order to keep them. Had to be cash.

They have a GREAT Stadium.
Go Miners!

Absolutely. What they did was turn the AAC into C-USA.

I know we've kicked on every reasonable door for many years. We've never been a fit in C-USA but it was the only option because of the Texas teams in North Texas, UTSA and Rice. But El Paso is closer to San Diego than Houston so.......

We've been screwed for years. This may just be the last straw. I can't see us even cobbling a schedule together as an independent. And because of how remote we are, I can't even see a FCS league wanting us either.

prob should be able to at least piece together a schedule but likely have to take it on the chin and be the punching bag for a few. also schedule the other independent teams

NMSU
TT
FCS team
Arizona
New Mexico
Liberty
BYU
Uconn
Umass
UNLV
SEC late season bag
Army

That's work but I don't think we could get all of those annually so we'd need to find others. I doubt BYU or Arizona would even consider it. Tech's actually been good about playing us fairly often....even coming to EP. UCONN or UMASS would if we went to New England every time. Doubt they'd be interested in coming to EP.

Believe it or not, Army might be very willing since it would be a de facto home game for them because of Fort Bliss. Tons of both retired military and West Point alumni in EP.

Na umass and uconn struggle to fill schedule too. Multiple fcs teams. And they have come out to nmsu. Maybe a 4 way partner ship like nmsu @uconn means uconn @ utep and utep @ umass so umass @ nmsu

Arizona and utep played as recent as 17. Im sure other pac schools would too

AAC commish Mike Aresco says they will still push the Power 6 thing

dude you coulndt pull it off with UCF and Cinci in the fold you aint getting it with North Texas and Rice

Yeah. As things currently stand its not going to be P5. It will be P2, P3ish, and everyone else. The Pac's deal expires a year before the Big 12's does so one may raid the other. ACC is locked in for a while so they are a bit hosed right now.

My prediction-either the Pac 12 raids the Big 12 or you see some of the big dogs in the Pac 12 jump to the Big 10 and the leftovers and the Big 12 merge. The Pac 12 needs CST and EST viewing and places like Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and now Cincinnati and Houston provide that. The rumor is the Pac's commish wanted to raid the leftovers for that reason but USC was scared of the new competition and voted it down. If they stay married to the conference they may not have a choice if they want to keep within striking distance of the P2. Option B is for them, Orego Good adds for the B1G and it gives them along with three others to jump ship. Random speculation but let's say it's USC, Oregon, Stanford, and Colorado. That leaves a potential conference with Washington, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, Utah, BYU, Cal, etc. No blue bloods but a lot of exciting second tier teams.

Home and Home series (in the same season) with NMSU and Army to start. That's four games. A couple of money games, a couple of regionals like Texas Tech, Arizona, New Mexico, UNLV, etc. It would be eclectic, but the Miners could give it a go as an Independent if they hook up with the WAC for other sports.

Na they gotta put the Pac money games first because Pac doesnt do late season non conference except Notre Dame.
put the other independent teams in the middle of the season.
