Aaron Rodgers is an Asshole Thread

This thread just ain't gonna be the same without Gigi White Knighting for Rodgers.

If Rodgers dick been any further down White Knight's throat, Gigi would have needed the Rod Stewart stomach pump.
I beg your pardon...

He also addressed the story at length in his new autobiography, Rod: The Autobiography, which has been excerpted by the Daily Beast. Stewart said he once made his publicist share a room with his 7-year-old son because a hotel was overbooked. (Side note: Don't do that to your publicist or your son. Inconsiderate.) The publicist brought a male friend back to the room, so Stewart fired him.

But the publicist's revenge, Stewart said, was "absolutely inspired."

"He fed the press a story in which, as a consequence of an evening spent orally servicing a gang of sailors in a gay bar in San Diego, I had been required to check into a hospital emergency room to have my stomach pumped," Stewart wrote. "I have never orally pleasured even a solitary sailor, let alone a ship's worth in one evening. And I have never had my stomach pumped, either of naval-issue semen or of any other kind of semen."

Which leaves us with exactly one celebrity emergency room urban myth. Time to set the record straight, Richard Gere.

My mom refused to allow any Rod Stewart music in our house because of the alleged incident.

It's a tough year to be a fan of Green Bay.

Speaking in the Pat McAfee show, Aaron Rodgers was questioned about what will be his next step. The quarterback didn't share the team's name, but gave a massive hint about what he wants from his next club.

"I think I can win MVP again in the right situation.. is that Green Bay or somewhere else," Rodgers said about his future. "I'm not sure and there's more conversations to be had."

Once the 2022 season ended for the Packers, the most common question was about Rodgers' future. The team gave him a huge 3-year contract that links him with the NFC North squad until 2026, but a change might be the best option for both parties for the 2023 campaign.

Only thing he's interested in is winning MVP.

He is such a douche.

but I dont think the Packers can afford to move him.
I hope his game falls off a fucking cliff.
Does anyone know when the last time he wasnt trying to hold the Packers hostage?

Gigi, when was that?

First off.. I will say Aaron Rodgers is an asshole...but the reporting there is just asinine and no where close to being true to what he was saying. He was specifically asked about his level of play.

And while it appears that he considered joining a new team in 2022 before deciding to stay put, he could decide to finally give it a try somewhere else, if he believes he can thrive in a new spot.

“Do I still think I can play?” Rodgers said. “Of course. Of course. Can I play at a high level? Yeah, the highest. I think I can win MVP again, in the right situation. Right situation, is that Green Bay or is that somewhere else, I’m not sure. But I don’t think you should shut down any opportunity. Like I said during the season, It’s got to be both sides like actually wanting to work together moving forward, and I think there’s more conversation to be had.”

He offered a pretty strong clue as to what would prompt him to not want to play for the Packers.

“I think no player wants to be part of any type of rebuild,” Packers said. “I said that years ago. Reloads are a lot of fun, because you feel like you’re close. You’re only a couple guys away.”

The fallout from Rodgers’s extension is enormous.

And on top of that, he decides in the very next offseason to initiate a LeBron-style drama over his next career move. NFL quarterbacks have an outsized presence already, but apparently that extends to wrecking the team?
Yup, what the Packers were thinking signing that contract I have no idea. The GM should be fired for that nonsense. Everyone at the time knew it was a time bomb waiting to go off. The only way it was worth it is if Rodgers led them to the SB this year. But with how much he is making, no money left over. Their cap number is screwed and even through their WR's aren't that good, they are almost all FA's. And the leading "quick fix" is to cut the only offensive talent they have in Jones. :L

Watson looks like a good building block as a rookie, took him some time to gel with Rodgers

maybe if he hadn't skipped all voluntary camps and worked with young WR's it wouldn't have taken several weeks to gel

GB should've traded him last and got the package seattle got, not sure Love is next guy, but I'm sure Love could've got GB to 8-9 and missing hte playoffs

It's a good organization, good coach and I think given time, the players will always develop in that system to something at least competitive. But Rodgers fucked over the payroll and it meant every receiver except Lazard would leave, and that it would take creatively restructured contracts to keep the RBs and key defensive personnel in town for even one more year.

Gutekunst? I dunno. It can't be an easy job keeping the fanbase happy by having to re-sign the marquee QB, but that there's no contingency for the future beyond, haha, Jordan Love, is unforgiveable. I'll say what I said at the outset of the last offseason: it's time to let Rodgers go. Trade his ass for a #1 pick, a couple of #2s and whatever else they can get. At this point, they'll have to pay a big chunk of his salary one way or another, and the team won't be out from under it for two more years. No one player can win a Super Bowl, and it was insane to think Rodgers could, even if it was a 1-year gamble.

That contract is untradeable as it stands now. Anyone taking the contract will not also give up a lot of draft comp based on the way he played last season. I'm interested to see how this can even play out.

They aren't getting a 1st and couple of 2nd rounders for a 39yo QB coming off the season he had.

While I agree with your ultimate perspective, we should reel one key thing back in a little... The GM should not have been fired.

Yes, the ultimate contract numbers were ridiculous; no one except Rodgers ever liked them. The GM's hand was forced to a great extent by circumstance at that time, though. If today's hindsight was available back when the contract was conjured, I'm sure he would've done things differently.
1) Rodgers just won back to back league MVPs and led the team to two straight NFC Championship games; you gotta pay a mofo that does that.
2) He lost Adams, MVS and St. Brown all at once and pressure was on to do everything he could to keep championship hopes alive; losing Rodgers, too, was not only losing a chance at the Super Bowl, but going into full rebuild mode and no one in the organization wanted that.
3) No one knew where Love's development was at that moment. Now that we've seen Love make some good strides in his development in 2022 plus the regression we saw in Rodgers, things are a lot more even now between the two than was the case at this time last year - with Love trending up and Rodgers trending down.

I still support Gutekunst as Packers GM. I feel kinda bad for him because he was locked into a no-win situation with Rodgers' contract. We'll see how he digs out of the fallout; if he doubles-down on bad decisions, my support will shatter.

Interesting take.

I do think of they thought love was ready last year they would've traded Rodgers.

They went all in on Rodgers. Damned if they do damned if they don't.

I think drafting love and back up RB (love/dillon) was a mistake. Hindsight is 20/20 but Higgins wouldve been better pick. Or hell get aggressive for a wr they really liked ( Justin Jefferson) but...

I think if they get a first its a conditional pick next year.

It would require paying a portion of the salary, as I said. And yes, it would be predicated on finding a team desperate and/or stupid enough to take on such an expensive headcase. Favre made it work and he was considerably more of a liability at the time.

Not his best, but he wouldn't be acquired based upon the most recent season. He'd be acquired by someone who thinks he could lead them to a Super Bowl, because all the other pieces are allegedly there -- the usual suspects: Jets, Commanders, Browns, Falcons, etc.
