We'll see. This coming year will likely give us that answer. He could show legit starter potential this preseason and GB could flip him for a couple high picks and/or another QB project to develop. If that happens, it wasn't "wasted". If he shows no/little signs of development & legitimacy, then yes it was wasted.

Even if he doesn't work out, I'm not distraught over it. At least GB didn't pull a Trubisky. And no team hits on every first rounder. The Packers have had some pretty good success with their picks over the past few years, so keeping that perspective I can't be too mad about it.

It’s all dependent on GB managing to win a SB in the next 3-4 years with a cheaper roster outside of the QB position. $50mil/yr is tough to negotiate around and the turnover is predictable. Yeah, Rodgers has the ability to elevate the play of his offense, but defense is gonna suuuuuuuccccckkkk. :cry:

The choice then is to either be (A) the best of a bad division by virtue of a good QB / good offense or (B) a crapshoot in a bad division but with picks & young players to rebuild around.

If the team wins another Super Bowl, then the choice is vindicated. But if they just win the division a couple times and then lose thereafter, it’s an expensive mistake with just a bunch of #12 jerseys sold.

Yeah, 50 mil is absolutely going to be difficult to negotiate around. And yes, we're probably not going to be able to retain some really good players who will need new contracts. There are going to be moments of frustration for fans when guys like Gary can't be retained because Rodgers is making all the money we could be paying him. Looking at it from another angle, though; individually, Rodgers has a greater impact on getting us into the playoffs than Gary does. As fans, all we can do is hope that we hit on a few more players like Gary who we can ride through their rookie deals on the cheap for now.

At this point they have to trade him for whatever they can get, no? I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t demand a trade. Poor guy might be Josh Rosen 2.0

A common misconception, though, is that picks = young studs. That is far from the truth. There are more draft misses than hits for every team. The true crapshoot is the draft. We have a "sure thing" on the books with Rodgers.

Sorry to prove you wrong but Denver, Pittsburgh and Tennessee had deals in place providing Rodgers wouldn't sign with Green Bay. I'm a Cowboys/Aaron Rodgers fan but my wife is a Packers fan and very happy he'll be back as QB. I think it sucks more to be a Patriots fan.

Love was always going to be a development project. I don't think they have to or want to trade him today. I'm sure the hope is that he spits fire in training camp and preseason to raise his trade value considerably. Right now, there's still not enough value to make a trade worth it.

Wilson would be competing against Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Derek Carr in that conference. Some reports said he preferred going to New Orleans.

Yeah, but there's also a break-even point, where even having a top-5 QB can't win in all situations. When the team is on the losing side of a lot of 27-24 games, the discussion shouldn't be around all the wonderful things Rodgers did and didn't do, but about why the secondary is so sucky and why the LBs can't tackle anyone.

But I don't have the magic crystal ball that Gutekunst does, so what do I know.

Maybe. Every chance he's gotten, he's proven he's a bust, a career backup at best. What do you do with guys like Andre Ware, Akili Smith, Dwayne Haskins or Johnny Manziel? You dump them for whatever you can get. Definitely, you don't play them.

Certain teams draft better than others. The Packers are blessed with being better at it than others, at least.

The real issue with the Packers last year was their league worst special teams unit.
