ACC Looks To Be Going To The Pod System In 2023

What can they do
That's part of their frustration, what do they do? I have to admit I give my UNC buddy shit when I tell him what do you think UGA could do to keep up with the UNCs and Dukes and Kansases and Ketuckys of the world in basketball. He really doesn't know how to respond to that. I say welcome to the world those of us live in with college basketball. You've enjoyed being a big boy in CBB, let me enjoy mine in CFB.

My only thought is that NIL and free agency, properly managed might help. And maybe CFP expansion. But then you see Bama kill the transfer portal, as expected and predicted and you realize that any of these changes also works for the big boys. I suppose you could put rules in place to limit money spent on scholarships, coaching, recruiting. But then you are penalizing schools who are aggressive for schools that are lazy. Or innovative.

yes because they have branded universities that will be making the same as Big12 schools that got left behind. It's also the reason why SC said everything is on the table because no way are they going to continue to eat dirt when it comes to revenue.

I don't think UNC will be like, well at least we are doing better than Arizona St.. and about the same as Oklahoma st.

Everything I have read says 2 tiers - SEC and B1G at about 110-120 million per teams, the other 3 conferences at around $55 million per team. I have not seen anything that says the ACC will be worse than the B12 and PAC.

No matter how much they hate it, they can't do anything until 2036 gets closer because of the GOR. That's a long time.

One of my best friends is a bug UNC donor, and it comes up all the time in the big meetings. They simply don't know what to do. They realize they are going to get left behind in football.
Let's say the ACC does get $65 million, the PAC 12 $60 million and the Big 12 $55 million. That's still like being the tallest midget compared to $115 million.

No doubt, and that is going to be a problem. You then maintain the quid pro quo where only a dozen teams really have a chance to win it all, or the B1G and the SEC expand for football to bring the likes of Clemson, FSU, Miami, USC, etc.

Here is a thought ... how many of the 132 teams have really had a chance to win the natty in the past 40 years anyway? How many have? Forget schools like Colorado, GaTech, BYU and some of the one-offs like that. What are we looking at:

UA
AU
UF
UGA
LSU
UTjr
ATM
UT
OU
tOSU
PSU
UM
UN
Clemson
FSU
Miami
USC
Oregon

That's 18 teams. The other 114 have never really had a chance. With or without the money, couldn't all those get back into contention?

Looking at non-SEC/B1G teams who will get the money:

Clemson - they are going to fade away unless Dabo changes his philosophy.
FSU - they have been really cash strapped already, will be worse in the future.
Miami - they are trying with NIL.
USC - same with NIL and transfer portal.
Ore - they have Phil Knight I suppose.

3 might be ok with NIL. So have things really changed that much. This is totally spitballing.

speaking of the ACC, they are fucked. They had a meeting with ESPN and they are not going to increase payments to the conference at this time. The ACC commish pretty much said, they have to continue to do well with less lol

How will Duke, UNC, UVA, Clemson, FSU, etc be ok with this for the next 13 years??
Duke is a private school that is located in the same metro area as UNC and NC State and has zero fan support in football. who cares what they are and aren't okay with.

UNC, UVa, Clemson and FSU are the four most attractive schools in the ACC and they will probably be key figures in the next conference realignment

WGAF if 90% of the teams aren't realistically capable of winning a NC? Only about 10% of the teams actually put the treasure and effort into winning a NC. Oh, you can say the Try Hards are giving it their best but that isn't enough. Winning NC's is a process that requires years and sometimes decades of devotion to winning at an elite level. Lightening might strike occasionally but I'm going to bet on a team that's been there before instead of some Johnny-Come-Lately. Fair? Who cares? It's like me being an OU fan and whining we get wiped off the map every time we act like we might win big time in basketball. A blueblood always comes along and kills us. If we get our ass kicked in the SEC I won't be whining; I'll be P.O.'d and won't blame anyone but ourselves. And if we win, we'll be hated. I repeat myself; WGAF.

I just have a real hard time believing that Rutgers is a better television draw than Clemson or Washington. So what if they are located in a huge media market. I really doubt that even people in NY/NJ really prefer watching Rutgers football to Clemson's. But they'll haul in twice the revenue.

Hire Bruce Pearl.

Here are the permanent opponents for each of the ACC's 14 schools:

  • Boston College: Miami, Pitt, Syracuse
  • Clemson: Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State
  • Duke: North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest
  • Florida State: Clemson, Miami, Syracuse
  • Georgia Tech: Clemson, Louisville, Wake Forest
  • Louisville: Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia
  • Miami: Boston College, Florida State, Louisville
  • North Carolina: Duke, NC State, Virginia
  • NC State: Clemson, Duke, North Carolina
  • Pitt: Boston College, Syracuse, Virginia Tech
  • Syracuse: Boston College, Florida State, Pitt
  • Virginia: Louisville, North Carolina, Virginia Tech

No NC State-Wake just feels wrong
Problem is that you couldn't put Wake, NCSU, UNC and Duke in a "pod" as that would lose UVa v. UNC, and leave Clemson without NCSU which is the best they can do for real competition ... .LOL. But having that Tabacco Road foursome sure made sense ... too bad they couldn't pull that off.

Wake and UNC have had two non conference matchups in the last few years because they played so rarely in ACC play. But Wake-NC State has turned into a fun little rivalry with both programs on the rise. I know you can’t keep all the good matchups, it’s just one I hate to see go

Turned into? The Deacs and the Pack have been at it for over a century

It hasn’t been interesting until recently. I said turned into a fun little rivalry, not turned into a rivalry. Before Clawson got to Wake, it was around the same tier as Washington State-Idaho

It's interesting they aren't going to 9 IC games.

I guess they don't need that extra loss. Also, their TV contract must not be affected by it.
