The question is who can replace Alex? They can't turn the show over to a comedian/huckster without risking ruining it. Who is out there that has name recognition, the smarts and the gravitas to pull off the ultimate brainiac TV program without looking like they're trying too hard.

Jennings is part of the production crew at present I believe so thought that would be an ideal placement but agree that he doesn't have the savvy of Alex - but then again, who does?

That will be the most difficult trait to replace and it's likely that no matter who is the next host, he or she will have an uphill climb to gain acceptance.
