Another Monday, but with a Supermoon

Glad you guys are having a good year. Still no game schedule yet. Probably for the best as our teams just aren't good. Another season of trying to make kids look better than they are. Just lack physicality that we are trying to encourage. End of the day though, either you have it or you don't.

Yea wow late in the game for all that. No interest?. Its crazy for a district as big as ours we have just the 2 teams at 3rd in our league (there are some in a different league). Until 7th the two Lakotas (East/West) can play together so you're looking at probably...800 boys to draw from. Of which you got like 50 playing in our league. With flag there is an entire league just from Lakota kids

Normal time for around here. We have good numbers for a small farm community. We just don't have as many "athletes" or kids that like contact compared to years when I first started. I took 2 years off coaching and it seems that's when it started. That's more coincidence than me leaving though. The freshman and 8th grade teams have been bad throughout & those are the 2 I didn't coach. The 7th grade this is the 1st I started coaching again last year. They have skill guys but no linemen due to size. The 6th graders I have this year is the biggest group of softies when it comes to contact. They are probably the smartest group in learning the plays. The 5th graders are adjusting to pads & learning. They might be alright.

The kids dad is cool as shit and not full of himself. I mostly just felt dumb buying his kid a gift card.

Glad both the dad and kid are cool and not those arrogant, "I'm better than you" person

When do you guys start tackle?

My thought process has always been to get the kids in it early when they can't really hurt each other and learn good form etc

I'd almost think it's more dangerous that you have a bunch of 120 plus pound kids all learning how to tackle

Good on you for volunteering your time man

I don't have the time lol

5th & 6th grade. Used to do 3rd & 4th grade but supposedly not enough coaching help. I believe I started coaching in 2013 or 2014 with 3rd & 4th tackle. I took 2016 off to watch my brother's Sr year of HS. The old board for it & 5th/6th retired at the end of that season. Either that season or after the 2015 season they stopped 3rd & 4th due to lack of help. I get a call in spring of 2017 from our HS head coach to become a board member of the league & coach as they were going to go by school instead of mixing. So 2017-2019 I win 2 championships & runner-up in 18 to our other team. Meanwhile the other schools form a flag league & then kick our kids out after 22. Last year I started our own flag league for pre-k to 4th in 3 divisions.

Busy fella!

Yea I get the lack of help but again, i think the safety aspect with more kids having exposure earlier limits head injuries later since they know what to do. I'd be uncomfortable with my kid having started tackle at 5th or 6th.

Sucks you are fighting against so much politics.

Around here & MAC country, some think that is too early. The MAC schools for the most part do not start tackle until 7th & 8th.

Fair enough

Would be an interesting study contrast of injuries, concussions etc.
