Sitting in Houston Traffic....
I'm being sued for 35k for a fender bender.

fuck the bitch there was no damage to her car but thats not the point.

My question is - If i leave my current insurance co - what happens to the lawsuit?

If the accident happened while your prior policy was in effect then that policy should provide your defense and if you’re found liable should pay up to your limit, assuming there are no exclusions that apply.

Your new insurer won’t cover the accident because it did not happen during their policy period.
 
What were your limits set at? Unless you had state minimums you really have nothing to worry about except for higher premiums. Do you have an umbrella policy? Finding a lower premium will obviously depend on your state, your last five years driving record and the other drivers in the home.

Geico has easily been the least expensive for me here in Tejas.

Iffin you aint full of shit and the coverage you paid for was up to date when the accident happened you're good to go. Your carrier is legally bound to pay the claim and you can cancel your policy the day after they pay up. You can actually bail out right now if you don't care how sketchy it would look.

send your insurance company a letter instructing them to offer your policy limits in exchange for a full release for you. Why? Because if she does actually sue you, take you to court and gets a judgement in excess of your policy you have a very good bad faith claim against your insurer IF they don’t offer your policy limits.

Personally I renew with existing company and let this ride for awhile and you can switch companies at any point.

How much money are you talking about saving? Because the amount vs risk matters.
 
How much money are you going to save really? This claim would have to be identified in your insurance application. And they’ll probably do loss runs anyway and find it. That might affect your quote especially since it’s an open claim.

I bought a 1971 model for my step daughter to drive her first year. This was the late 1990's. It was like $1700.
Sold it a year and a half later, but always wished I'd kept it.

It was a great car. I liked them, but wasn't my favorite year for the Grand Prix, that was 1969.

Mine looked a lot like this one.
