I'm gonna bet the main issue was the financial hole the university is in and the difference of opinion on how the athletic department contributed to it...or didn't. From the number of the deficit I saw, there is no way athletics contributed to very much of that deficit. The math just doesn't add up to blame athletics to any significant degree.
 
this guy was bad.. he also was one of the ADs who scoffed at the 35M a year deal from ESPN/FOX thinking they were gonna get 55M..

He also was the ones that kept saying this is fine despite the conference engulfed in flames after the Big12 took the deal they left off the table
