I've been very busy ripping DVDs onto a 2 TB external HD and then uploading to Youtube as "unlisted" so that they don't get removed. It's a lot of work but it feels great to get this accomplished.

An added benefit of the movie/tv show being unlisted is that you can share it to family/friends and also download it onto your devices if you'd prefer.

Anyone else doing anything similar? Any ideas on what I can do to improve this?

I'm using Mac DVD Ripper Pro for about $32 total and ripping as .mp4

Not sure if you guys have noticed that many obscure old movies and TV series are getting extremely rare or are completely unavailable.

I did this back in the day with all my CDs. It sucked. I had an assload of CDs.

Easiest way is to hire someone to do it for you.

I have a 24TB media server I use MakeMKV to backup my blu-ray yeet the case put the disc in a huge billfold. I don't share my server outside my household, I've turned on external sharing but only for my household when away on work or something. I use plex as my server

Yeah, my brother was telling me about this. Sounds like the ultimate setup.

Well, where is the catalog?

I started it back when I was doing my own whole home DVR and media server with windows media center for back and front end. Had network cable card tuners and cablecards and essentially had my own in home local streaming setup could watch 6 simultaneous live channels (or record up to 6 live shows) and as long as I kept adding storage unlimited dvr size. Then I tried playstation Vue and have been streaming live tv that way since and just used the DVR drive space for movies. MakeMKV is by far the best free (and paid but it's free) tool to backup your collection, pretty much lossless backup and is frequently updated to break the pesky DRM on the discs wmc got killed when windows 7 eol pretty much so plex took that slot nicely
