And then this article- Elvis Presley said he never wrote any of his own songs.

And here's what he said in 1957-

"It's all a big hoax, honey. I never wrote a song in my life. I get one-third credit for recording it."

"It makes me look smarter than I am. I've never even had an idea for a song."

The article also says he couldn't read or write music.

No I never said he wrote his own material. I said most of his early recordings weren't covers. A cover to me is recording another artist's song. Obviously some folks consider someone else writing the song makes it a cover. Most performers back then had song writers finding material for them to record.
