you want to talk about others, we can. American Fiction, Wolf on Wall Street, etc...there are plenty of movies out there that aren't comic books or sequels.

"Wolf of Wall Street" is over 10 freaking years old! And wasn't "American Fiction" based on a novel? So it sounds like a big part of its "fresh idea" was already out there.

Tell us about some films with "fresh ideas" that you liked that weren't lauded by critics etc. The kind of movies that I wouldn't have heard everyone blabbing about at parties.

novels are fresh ideas...making them into movies isn't anything new.

are you saying The Godfather wasn't "fresh" because it was based on the book?

My initial suspicion is that it probably took a lot more work, thought and creativity to turn "The Godfather" into a script/film.

they actually did a tv show on it called The Offer. I really enjoyed it.
 
This is on Netflix now so I checked it out. It's decent but nothing more. I liked that they actually spent more time with Beetlejuice and the after life than the original but the main issue with the movie is there's too much going on. There's like 4 simultaneous plots going on and the movie ends up short changing them all. They really should have edited the script down in preproduction to just focus on 1 maybe 2 things.
