The Patriots are attempting to replace Tom Brady after 20 years. When asked about starting the season with multiple QBs, coach Bill Belichick didn't dismiss the possibility.
It also serves to light a fire under both QB's asses. Neither wants to platoon with the other and BB is likely just trying to get them to be their best now so he can settle on a starter.
