Best and Worst Drivers by State 2021

“What? No way! Clearly, these people have never driven through the nightmare that is Elm Street.” After six years, we’ve heard it all. No matter where they actually rank on our annual list of Best and Worst Drivers by State, everyone thinks their state has the worst drivers. We analyzed over 2 million insurance quotes to find out which states have the worst drivers in America and which have the best. Drivers were evaluated on four factors to determine overall driving quality.

Those factors include:
  • Accidents
  • Speeding tickets
  • DUIs
  • Citations

Where doess your state rank and do you agree or disagree with your ranking?

I'm surprised that Iowa and North Dakota are ranked first and second worst in the nation, but I can say that after a dozen road trips through Virginia and back their #3 place on the list is well deserved. Holy crap, those fucking people don't know what the hell they're doing.

I think DUIs should be weighted much heavier than speeding violations or citations and move Wyoming, Tennessee, and North Dakota up on that list

also factor in fatal accidents

Not sure how Assachhusetts is only ranked the 16th worst. I'm in that dump on a regular basis and the vast majority of the drivers down there are inconsiderate assholes.

it's a pretty straightforward way in which they determined the best and worst.

they didn't factor any kind of opinion into it.

Holy crap NY and NJ didn’t make the top 25. WTF are you people doing behind the wheel?

Which basically shows their methodology to be flawed.

Me (best)

... large gap ...

Everybody else on the road. (worst)

I have heard many a horror story about DC traffic, specifically when it rains

Let's face it... we're ALL crappy drivers much of the time!! :dhd:

MY issue is the "lead foot" syndrome... :rolleyes2:

No shit. I lived there for 13 years and VA, especially Northern Virginia is full of idiots. Couldn't wait to get out of there.

They're all true. Lived there 13 years and they can't drive for shit, even in good weather.

Not surprised Iowa is #1. Those fuckers drive 10-20 over or under the speed limit at all times and if there is more than one on the road, you just start praying.

My biggest issue with Virginia drivers is that they seem to be oblivious to the fact that there are other people on the road with them. Doing my cannonball run to NC and back always entails getting stuck behind a few (mostly older) folks that are going exactly the speed limit in the left lane and they aren't moving over for nothing! Gotta wait for an opening and pass them on the right while waving to them.

10 over is good, 10 under is grounds for extermination

If they counted Vegas alone, instead of with the entire state, the numbers for accidents and DUIs would put them near the top of the couple bad lists.
