Watched a lot of John Wayne movies with my folks when I was a kid, but it has been probably 30 years since I've seen one. I will agree with @Cowboyinexile 's comment especially in that the remake of True Grit was outstanding and better than what I remember of the original. Could be because Jeff Bridges is the best actor of his generation, could be better film technology

Barry Pepper was in the new one.

They’re all the same. John Wayne was the most ridiculously overrated “actor” of all time.

don't recall anyone ever calling him a great actor, so don't know how he'd be overrated. the era is what it is. never caught lobo, but had to go bravo over el dorado. i know some have said their the same movie (a lot of westerns were), that said, i thought el dorado was closer to shane and shane was much better, so bravo easily.
