Big 12 announces Bob Bowlsby will step down as commissioner later this year

interesting
loses 2 big names
gains a program that now has a play off appearance which is more than like 90% of college football.
has a team win the basketball NC.
but they gonna make him step down? im assuming anyway.

He's 70 years old and doesn't want to live with trying to mesh 8 orphans with 4 wannabes while watching the two moneymakers leave for greener pastures. Whoever they hire better get a heck of a contract because he's going to be herding cats from Day One. Or will they hire a woman? Don't laugh. It would be just like them to go all woke and try to make history.

The conference members just need to expect the next commish to keep the conference from sinking too far. Even if the next person is the best conference commish ever, the conference's ceiling is already established as far as the financial piece goes. Their expectation should be to keep the payouts to keep up with the PAC 12 and ACC and be at least 40-50% of what the B1G and SEC make. They'll have done a good job if they can do that.

It's actually interesting that I have seen 2 graphs that show the B12 keeping pace with the ACC and PAC. Didn't think that was going to happen, but it appears it will. That keeps them as P5, and that is great news for them and CFB. That said, the imbalance between the Midget 3 and the Big 2 is unreal and probably not healthy for the CFB.

Here is the closest it gets (Navigate projects SEC/Big Ten per-school payouts $40-50 million ahead of rest of P5 by 2026):

Just wait til Notre Dame and USC join the BIG to try n keep up with the SEC.

Why does Bowlsby think he can leave and OU and texas cannot? Should we be talking exit fees here?
Is he retiring or entering the transfer portal?

That "P5" label is already flat out horseshit...at least in terms of revenue generated by conference affiliation. And as your chart predicts, it will only get worse. If that graph also showed the G5s, it would be even more striated. If you take conference affiliation out of the equation, I have no doubts that Iowa State types generate as much (if not more) revenue as a Mississippi State types. As much as the purists don't want anything similar to professional sports, CFB is looking much more similar to MLB now than other college sports. MLB, AAA Minors, AA Minors, A Minors, etc.

So we actually already have the two Super Conferences that have been alluded to since realignment started. It is just at 32 instead of the 64 everyone was trying to envision.

Does anyone really believe there are 64 teams that are "Super"...at least in terms of attracting revenue? Hell, I'm of the opinion there aren't even 32 that have that kind of attraction. To use @Goldbug terms, those that don't have that kind of attraction are really also "wannabes" instead of "Supers". They just happen to be fortunate to be in a position that the Supers are willing to share with them. And just how productive have those in conference "wannabes" been with that revenue the "Supers" are willing to share with them? Hell, in some cases the "Supers" haven't even been productive with their own revenue!

OU has chosen to move and we'll see how successful we will be but at least we did something instead of just moping around and complaining about how unfair life is. The SEC has the best product on the market. Why shouldn't they make the most money? Only a commie would want a system where every conference gets the same amount of money. I'm tired of the complaints. Either get better, move or just accept your fate.

I would really like to be able to look back at the other site and see your stance on A&M going to the SEC a few years ago and if you were this level headed about it. Most Big12 fans were claiming we were running away, moping because we couldn't win the big12, complaining about "big brother", etc. :pop2:

I thought all the comments on the other site were "it was all Texas' fault" and the nail in the coffin was the LHN. But, my memory ain't too swift.

I remember it differently. My recollection is all the people left in the Big12 said A&M was crying and running away, disregarding the benefits the SEC offered over the big12.

The ACC screwed themselves. They are worth more than they are getting.

The PAC is more challenging due to time zone issues and no one pulling ratings unless they play out of conference.
