Not to me. Just seemed like 4.
bro it's FOX.. they want their inventory.. they know that the new 4 teams aren't doing anything for them.. That's why one of the negotiating things is talks of UT and ou playing an OOC game vs a current Big12 school for the next 5 or 6 seasons. SEC is not going to want to have their schools play UT or ou on FOX.. thus the negotiating.. if it were money, it would have already been done
again it's not the money.. UT is willing to pay whatever they have to pay.. so much so that the Big12 is cool with it. It's the rights that FOX won't come off of.. which shows that this is much more of a Fox vs ESPN thing.. they say it's about inventory when you have 4 schools joining THIS SEASON. SEC isn't wanting to put it's teams who will be part of the ESPN deal on Fox. Again McMurphy has talked about this which is the reason for optimism because ESPN and Fox are talking on how to make it work..FOX revenue and inventory is/was never set in stone. That is why the conferences payouts are variable year to year. Conference payouts took a big hit in the Covid season because there were fewer games. Yeah, FOX/ESPN lost revenue, but they adjusted that by paying conferences less.
The GOR simply stated that ESPN/ABC/FOX had the media rights.
The GOR is clear for tejas' way out. If you want to leave before July 2025, just PAY UP.
jesus man it's not about paying up.. it's the rights that FOX doesn't want to come off of.. The Big12 has NOTHING to do with that.. Fox has more power than the conference. Big 12 just got a sweetheart deal from ESPN.. not a coincidence that they are ready to move on sooner than later as wellFOX revenue and inventory is/was never set in stone. You are joking, correct?there's nothing to pay..
Exit fees and GOR.. if that was the price we would have been gone.. just because you pay the GOR doesn't make you free to go
like 6 years of future games?I'd trade some ooc games in exchange for some things.
Works for me.
I don't know really.like 6 years of future games?
Red keeps talking about the 55 million right? That's not the issue..You are joking, correct?
Like I said earlier.. if they want 6 years of future games vs Big12 schools just for us to leave a season early, paying the 55 or so mil.. I rather just stay another season and be done with them for good.I don't know really.
But some set number of games I suppose could be worked out.
Red keeps talking about the 55 million right? That's not the issue..
Big 12 bylaws require Oklahoma and Texas to pay an exit fee the sum of the league’s distribution for two years — which is about $84 million per school, sources said. Historically, when a school leaves a conference, that exit fee is negotiated down to about 60%, meaning OU and Texas could possibly get out for about $50 million each.
What is the issue is that Fox wants the rights to UT/ou for games they play in the SEC... They don't care about the money that the Big12 negotiates, they want the inventory/SEC games.. Fox feels like the loss is too much (UT/ou leaving) despite 4 new schools coming in next season. It's why they aren't paying as much in the new Big12 deal compared to ESPN.
If it was as simple as paying the price, this would have been settled long ago..

The money itself will never be an issue for UT or ou whether we play in '24 or in '25 in the SEC.. the money is going to double. Both athletic departments will be in terrific shape. I'm just done personally with having to play Big12 schools because we are obligated.. this has been the recurring theme since the days of UT in the SWC and ou in the Big 8. It's why the Big12 was formed.
I mean look, they are all chomping at the bits to get a home and home with both schools before we leave..
So you first say Texas and OU have to pay this much to exit the conference while then trying to argue Fox won’t let them leave.Red keeps talking about the 55 million right? That's not the issue..

ESPN will pay UTs exit fees .. again it's not the money.. it's FOXPshh
The GOR is out of the Big 12 corporate office. It's enforceable by the Big 12, not FOX or anyone else.
It was that GOR that gave FOX/ESPN the risk assessment in carrying Big 12 material even though they'd just lost 4 programs and were on the verge of collapse. No GOR and the Big 12 doesn't get near the contract. The GOR pulled them out of a nosedive.
It was a gamble on FOX/ESPN's part in that it was unlikely anyone would break a GOR with that kind of penalty. There's not an athletic department out there that is willing to take a $50 million dollar haircut. That's SMU death penalty type stuff. It's not just football living off that revenue. It also pays for sports that only family members attend.
Remember when you said TX/OU would encourage other teams to jump ship from the Big 12 so that the conference would dissolve and therefore the GOR could no longer be enforced? I do.
Remember when you said ESPN would pay their exit fees? I do.
Remember when you said the SEC would pay their exit fees? I do.
All that has now turned into "We have plenty of money to pay the exit fee. It's FOX".
FOX can't stop TX/OU from leaving early. Neither can the Big 12 for that matter.
Cut the damn exit fee check already.
umm yeah FOX lol.. they don't want the money they want the inventorySo cut the check. Nobody can stop you.
because FOX owns TV rights.. exit fees are exit fees, has nothing to do with the TV deal.. The GORs are.. and that is the hold up. Fox wants it's 6 games from UT and it's 6 games from ou.So you first say Texas and OU have to pay this much to exit the conference while then trying to argue Fox won’t let them leave.
Bold strategy cotton
So Fox is the bad guy, not the hateful 8?Red keeps talking about the 55 million right? That's not the issue..

Yeah... I get what @Thiefery is saying. That's why (in general) I think any big name team signing a GOR is stoopid. I mean, definitely negotiate a conference exit fee amount, but to 'sign away' future compensation rights for going to another conference is dumb as fuck.So Fox is the bad guy, not the hateful 8?
Pshh
