Big 12 thread

Not sure anyone else has seen this. Also not sure this would do a whole hell of a lot to make the Big XII the kind of money they're going to need to keep up with the Big Boys.

Reports: Big 12 eyeing BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF for possible expansion
There is nothing they can do to even come close to the money they've been getting. Nothing.

Their only decision is if they want to be an 8 team G5 conference or a 12 team G5 conference. They are G5 the day OU and Texas are officially gone.

That would make for a damn good hoops conference though. JMO.

They could implement naked cheerleaders.

That would raise revenue and ratings.

Host on WV radio just said the revenue from adding some of these schools may have to come from threatening ESPN with a lawsuit and demand them to pay a portion of the lost revenue “hold them hostage” was the phrase.
I’m sure that would work beautifully

i think that while def taking a huge, HUGE pay cut, adding those schools would widen the gap between them and the rest of the G5 conferences

Houston makes no sense.

Memphis, Boise State, Navy and South Florida would be better choices.

yeah i don't buy Houston..it's in a city of 7 million people and they can't even sell out it's 26k seat stadium consistently. I would think Rice would be a better choice for them but it seems like most schools want to play in Houston every other season for recruiting purposes

So OU and TX have been playing a G5 conference schedule for the last decade?

It's basically the equivalence of UCF, Cincy, or Memphis going to the SEC then.

yeah i don't agree that ISU/Tech/osu/bu/KU are G5 programs at all. But in this day in age it's all about revenue and eyeballs. I'm still in the belief that the remaining 8 with expansion of 4 will be competitive on the field. They would create a bigger gap between themselves and G5 conferences.

Only thing that they have working hugely against them will be the TV revenue. And that itself will ensure there is a big gap between them and the P4 conferences. But i'm willing to bet that quality football will be played regardless, in the Big12.

well Houston CHronicle is saying that UH could be voted into the big12 as soon as next week

Brett McMurphy is saying the same thing now..could be official within the month. Yeah UT/ou will be playing in the SEC next season for sure, as the new four members begin play in the Big12.

Meh, they'd be the tallest midget. Still a midget.

Nope. I'm saying those eight will drop to the Cincy, Memphis level instead of Memphis, Cincy elevating to P5.

They’all if you’re talking Southern schools!!

Are they not already Cincy/Memphis level?

Wouldn't Cincy/Memphis be challenging the Orphan 8 (and even Texas) for #2 in the Big 12?

Either the Orphan 8 were a P5 'grind' or they weren't.
They don't mysteriously become G5 level because a (73 - 60) team for the past 11 years and a perennial CFP teams that's been feasting on those teams leave, do they?

It is looking like BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF are coming. Surprised they picked Houston over Boise State or Memphis. Both would be better options.
