Truthfully I’d think it’s because they don’t want to give UT or OU an out to leave early unless they are highly compensated.

We'll see about that "getting our asses kicked" stuff when the time comes. In the meantime, the Remainders are acting like condemned prisoners scarfing down their last meal. I wish it had all turned out differently but $$$ is all anyone cares about in today's sports world.

But if it doesn’t come close to what the B12 would get by having you two in the conference the next 3 years then they don’t want to leave an out for you to leave on the cheap.

From what I read, there isn't enough extra money from it to have it make sense.
We all know that nothing happens if there isn't money. I am guessing the math nerds at the networks came back and said there isn't enough extra money to make it worthwhile.
Here is something of interest:

The idea here is that the only way ND can get to $75 million would be to have another conference have games before and after. Let's say NBC bids on the B12 and takes one of their best games at noon, then ND at 3:30, then an 8pm best B12 game. NBC might be willing to pony up for that. That helps ND and the B12.

I have no details whatsoever. As the article points out, ND isn't worth 75 million on its own. The only way someone can pay them that is if their game can bring viewers to games before and after. I've heard this discussed in other contexts, so it's not totally new.
Recall that CBS for a long time only had one SEC game per week. The B12 might be better off negotiating with multiple networks like the B1G has done, and the SEC did before turning it all over to ESPN. Something along the lines of giving NBC their best game in prime time, and then taking a lesser game at noon. The rest of the games the B12 can give to Fox or ESPN. NBC then might be able to pay ND more and make money off the B12 game as well. Again, I have no idea about the number, but something like that is what it would take to make this work.

I guess I just don't understand that kind of thinking.
If I just left it on 1 channel all day, ok, but that isn't how it works is it.
When I'm done with the ND game, I switch to my next game that I usually change the channel for.
Y’all won’t get your asses kicked. Neither will those under achieving rusty cows. I think both will be in the top 1/4-1/3 in the conference most years.
You guys won’t win the number of conference championships you have in the last 10 years. But that isn’t your fault. It was due to some crappy play from other conference mates.

I think this is pretty standard in TV ratings in general. Not just sports, but all TV. Some shows are so good that people will tune in to what is in front of it and stay after. You wanted to be the show that was before and after Friends, Mash, Seinfeld, etc. They can also market it all week long ... ND v. USC at 3:30pm .... Baylor v. UCF at 8:00pm ... and now I see the problem, LOL.

So if you are the Big12 and IF...(big if) making a deal with NBC/ND and or some other networks puts the Big12 into a "comfortable" level with the ACC as far as staying competitive financially (neither is catching the BIG/SEC anytime soon that's a given) then why not take OU and Texas' early out money and apply it to your future rather than watching em both leave with nothing in your hands except air when that day comes? GR……The B12 made 426 million in tier 1 and 2 rights In 2021. The old Commish said 50% of that was off the backs of UT and OU. Why would the B12 give that up early for some pitiful cop out amount UT and OU would give to leave early? There is absolutely nothing realistically that will help the B12 make what they are making now when OU and UT bounce. If I’m the B12 I’m making sure UT and OU stay until the very last second they can leave unless some absurd (needs to more) amount comes up.
