Big 12 thread

I don't know who it will be, but the Big 12 champ will have 2 conference losses and will not make the CFP. There isn't enough separation in the whole damn bunch for anyone to go through it without a couple of "oh shit" games. JMO.

3 teams still alive to do it. i dont know about 2 losses but i would be surprised if anyone got out with only 1

None of 'em are head and shoulders above the others IMO. They'll have to get all the breaks at the right time to get through it unscathed. The OU meltdown is confusing people...again, IMO.

Tech is a good example. They beat Texas at home...though neither had their best QB playing. Okie Lite struggled last week with a Tech team playing their 3rd team QB.

TCU, Okie Lite, K-State may look good right now but Iowa State, Baylor and those types are still good enough to beat them if they go brain dead. Hell, Kansas, Tech and West Virginia are even capable of beating them. And we've seen Texas crap the bed so we know they are capable of it. OU's just got their dauber down so far they just need to try and screw someone else's season up.

Hell no it didn't work and it ain't gonna matter...even when BYU, UCF, Houston and Cincy join 'em. There won't be a "pull" in the whole bunch.

Those numbers are proof that name recognition is all that matters with regular CFB fans and TV execs know it. Doesn't matter how close games are because several of those games listed there weren't even close i.e. #2 and #3. Bama/A&M should have been #1. It was close...and it was #1 by nearly 2:1.

You and I (and the rest of the cazies on the hoop) aren’t “regular” CFB fans…at least imo. We are CFB crazies that like to watch good, close competitive games if available. Then we’ll even watch crappy ones uf nothing else is on. Those others only watch their teams, ones in their area or those with historic names/reputations. Even though it was close, no way Michigan/IU draws that many except from Michigan’s name. And Texas/OU wasn’t worth a damn compared to the ones you described….which didn’t even make the list.

It's a bit of a circle jerk though. All but one of those games was a network game. If you put TCU @ KU on ABC or Fox and the RRSO on cable, the numbers would be much different for both games. Not saying that OU and Texas are not bigger draws in general than TCU, KU or any other good Big Xii team, but being on a network station automatically brings more eyeballs, because more people have access to ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox than any cable station.

No doubt the main channels and time slots play a part in this. Example: There is a reason CBS paid up to get first choice of the SEC games. They had nearly twice the viewership of any of those others that were listed. Like you point out, had Bama/A&M been on the SEC network, I doubt they come close to that 7+ million number. But CBS wasn’t/isn’t willing to pay up if they are further down in the pecking order and get stuck with a South Carolina/Mizzou type game in their premier time slot. ( They probably would be willing to put Bama/South Carolina in it if that’s the only decent choice that week.)

The problem for the future Big 12 is they won’t have any of those natural “pulls” to draw viewers regardless of the quality of football. Without those natural “pulls” the networks are going to low ball them significantly during negotiations….even if they play good football.

This QB got his ass handed to him in his first start by an unranked, 22 point underdog Kansas team and eventually lost his starting job to a Freshman and then transferred from OU back when transfers were not that common. But at least he has a National Championship ring to show for his time at Oklahoma. Wonder whatever happened to this guy.
