Big 12 thread

If they accept schools for Bball reasons.. might as well go all the way out.. add Gonzaga and a school like Creighton/St Marys/St Johns

then for basketball you can have an East and West division
Zags, BYU, Tech,bu,TCU, UH, osu
KU/ksu/isu/uc/ucf/wv/Creighton

If you add more for basketball, let them be historically successful teams in the East (Big East).. doing so you can get KU/KSU back into the west side of the bracket.
That while would be nice for us distance wise would never work. Eventually the basketball schools will want to be paid the same as the football schools. That’ll never happen.

how could they if they don't even carry a football program? Whatever they are making now in the WCC or BigEast pales into a portion of what the Big12 will offer them for basketball only
Gonzaga brings in the most money for it's tournament wins for the WCC..

Exactly yet they still want it.

This type of thing hasn’t and won’t work.

The last time something like this was tried it was before it's time (WAC)

Big East did this for decades til the ACC came in and poached all of it's football members

This could really work, Gonzaga and another school (creighton?) could be the guinea pigs for a couple of seasons. ESPN owns majority of the inventory.. If the ratings remain high, I can't see FOX not liking it either.. and will probably give some form of bump for basketball expansion only.

for now, 2 divisions. Divisions play home and home games for a total of 12 games. Then they play one game vs the other division, 6 games.. for a total of 18 conference games. They can figure out if they decide to rotate the championship game or just keep it in Kansas City

Plus the beauty of bringing schools who just have a basketball programs.. you won't have all the animosity that football brings. Sure Zags won't be getting the 50 mil KU is getting from the conference.. probably more like 12 a year, but they still will get every bit of exposure KU gets nationally which helps with the real revenue generator, donations.

Big 12 Predictions:

TCU 38 Texas Tech 24
Oklahoma 31 Baylor 28
Oklahoma State 37 Kansas 30
Iowa State 31 West Virginia 24
Kansas State 28 Texas 27

I don’t see it working long term. Eventually theyll be disagreements somewhere and it invites other conference (PAC) a chance to poach.

Cyclones clinging to a 10-7 lead heading into the 4th just looking for a way to lose the game. I told you @ralphiewvu that ISU would not light up the WVU defense just like they didn't light up @Kansas (11) or Oklahoma (13) either. ISU has the worst offense in the State of Iowa, and that is saying something!

Annnnnd, Kansas is going bowling barring a collapse. Not convinced this is their last win of the regular season either.

Great Game buddy, the better team won by far.

Im happy for Campbell and ISU after the screw job you got last year.

Its time for a change in Morgantown.

The Mountaineers played plenty tough too. It took everything ISU had to win that game. FWIW, on the Cyclone Board I frequent, they were all over it being time for Brown to be let go. I thought you would appreciate that. Hope the Mountaineers win out! :)

I do appreciate that. I just wish our AD would take heed that advice. I’m not hopeful on that front though.

Looks like it could be tomorrow Cyc! God willing

Who do you went / expect to be in the running @ralphiewvu?
My First call would be Coastal Carolina’s coach Chadwell.

Another twitter twit said if we fired brown first call would be Lance Leipold. I laughed as he ain’t leaving Kansas for WVU.

My wishlist:
Jamie Chadwell
Matt Rhule
Jimbo
Ja’Juan Seider

Not sure we could get the first 3 and the 4th choice is a big gamble. (Former WVU QB and current RB coach at Penn State but helluva recruiter in Florida.)

Rhule would be an amazing fit. PA/Northeast guy that is a great evaluator. Not a fan of the rest. I feel like WV needs to go back to who they are again. They have been chasing offensive minds, since RichRod left. Rhule would get you back to playing tough football again. He probably isn’t coming, but you need a tough defensive minded guy there. You are fucking coal miners, play football like it

Neal was supposed to be that guy. The defense in his first and second year wasn’t horrible. The last guy like a coal miner was Nehlen. I’m not totally against the thought. But we had a good thing going with Rod and Holgorsen. We won with both and/or it was fun to watch. This shit right now is miserable to watch. I’d stick with an offensive guy, that’s why my first call would be Chadwell.

this is the bad approach.. Offense>defense.. Big12 is getting younger, hipper and exciting or whatever.. nobody cares about iowa st and their good defense.. talk of right now is high flying TCU

Week 11 Lines:

Oklahoma (-8) at West Virginia
Iowa State (-1) at Oklahoma State
Kansas State at Baylor (-3)
Kansas at Texas Tech (-4)
TCU at Texas (-7)

Interesting that lowly OU has a road game and the highest odds in the Big 12 this weekend. And texas has the second highest playing an undefeated team. Some fuckery going on.
