LOL.. been busy today..

so they said it's dead and we are staying.. then later they say it's not dead ... guess it's still being negotiated.. and again ITS NOT THE MONEY @Red_Alert

Holgorsen does have a point. Houston is dead last donations and fundraising in the new Big 12 by a large margin, and competing with other schools in the conference in NIL and recruiting will be extremely challenging if things don’t change quickly.

DOesn't take a rocket surgeon to see that ESPN and Fox can't get the same ad revenue from a BYU vs UH game as they can a Jexas vs OU.

Yeah. Naturally they're not happy about it, but the GOR is clear that if TX/OU want out they just need to cut checks to the Big 12 for 2X media rights revenue. That would be 2X whatever the SEC's paying their teams.

this article breaks it down.. The exit fees (80 plus million) has already been negotiated ..anywhere from 30-60 million. FOX is the only hurdle..and their number isn't set? why? because they are the ones who deem how valuable having UT and ou are.. like $255 mil value lol

acting like it's about money when the confrence and the two schools are cool.. it's about inventory and Fox wants it's games.. Big12 really doesn't have much value apparently.. They were cool with Nebraska, aggy, Mizzu and Colorado leaving because it didn't cost them anything.. It's different in this case for FOX.

But it's gonna get settled as it always does.

EDIT Btw @Red_Alert reading up on this.. GORs are signed by the schools to the conference..which then are bought by the Media Companies.. so theoretically a conference can come to a settlement/agreement on departures or arrivals of schools, but the Media Companies have the last say.. no wonder why they Cable networks run CFB :(

FOX can go after the Big 12 for it's pound of flesh, but good luck with that. They took the risk that the GOR's penalty was steep enough that no institutions would take the haircut.

The Big 12 is the ultimate authority here and hold all the cards. They could care less whether TX/OU stay or go. They get paid regardless and would actually get paid more by a TX/OU early exit to the SEC because the SEC pays more.

What is the number? It's not the 80 million.. that's already been negotiated..

again, Fox wants the inventory.. and are also bringing in the advertising/marketing revenue it would lose over those "premium" 7 games.. I get the RRS being premium.. but what other games could they be talking about? Bedlam... us vs TCU?

Big 12, UT/ou, ESPN.. cool

FOX.. isn't

Shit will get worked out though.. i'd bet that they announce an agreement by the end of the month (since this is technically the 18th month that they need to put in an official notice)

man i wonder if this has to do more with ou than us for a change? Maybe Fox got pissed about them canceling the UGA series that was supposed to start this September?

FOX and ESPN rotate getting the top pick of the Big 12.. last year FOX took the Bama in Austin game over the RRS..

@Red_Alert ok.. so 50 mil is for the GOR.. which UT apparently was able to go forward with, but not ou (because of course)



the 80 mil was already negotiated down (between 30-60mil)
 
Looks like OU and Texas are going no where. Rumors as to why are the following (disclaimers that these are just rumors and not fact):

1. Big12 was wanting OU and Texas out to make room for some Pac12 teams including Oregon and Washington but the negotiations stalled and Pac12 might survive causing Big12 to not be as vocal about OU and Texas leaving now

2. Fox is the big issue and not the Big12. They don't want to lose the TV revenue. All other parties had come to an agreement. If it is to be believed, the SEC had OU and Texas cancel their OOC games not just because of the move but also to stick it to Fox

If I was OU or Texas' leadership at this point, I would just write a check that I think is fair to the parties and then move on. Let them sue me, I won't pay a dime regardless of what the court rules. How would they be able to collect the money? I also have the argument of the "fair" check that I wrote them. Sure it is a breach of contract but the contract is ridiculous unfair and stupid. What are they going to do, try to get the court to send police to arrest the University Board of Directors? There is literally no scenario where Fox could enforce payment if the schools just say fuck off.

Then why'd they sign it? Did OU and Texas not have competent legal counsel when they signed a ridiculous, unfair and stupid contract? Or did they ignore the advice of their legal counsel?
