Big 12 thread

just looked this up on google..so don't kill me for not checking with one of Red's authorized sources

So the following schools paid the Big12 these amounts when they left

Colorado-less than 7 mil
Nebraska- little more than 9 mil
aggy and mizzu- little over 12 mil each..

so yeah whatever UT and ou pay will probably triple those.. Guess we know which brands carry the weight

oh.. so chip brown ( i know, I know UT fans) had an interview and added these details of the negotiating..

Fox wanted UT and ou to play 4 games (home and homes) vs a current Big 12 team, each. Fox said it could be the same school or 2 different schools.

UT said no because they didn't think it was fair to play 4 future games for leaving one season.. then asked Fox if they should scrap the UM and tosu series between '24-'27 in order to schedule the big12 schools.. which Fox said no lol..

@Red_Alert guess what? ESPN still owes UT 150 million for the LHN network.. it was all guaranteed :)

Thank you Tom Osborne for saying no to it :)

The current GOR wasn't in place when those teams left. The current GOR was written in 2012 (to keep what remained of the Big 12 together) and was revised (amended) in 2017.

Lowly Kansas would be under the same GOR penalty as TX/OU right now.
i.e. 2X Big 12 conference payout or 2X conference payout of their new conference (SEC). Whichever is higher.

FOX can wish in one hand and shit in the other. Guess which one fills up first?

i'm fairly certain that the big12 wouldn't make KU pay the same amount UT/ou will if they chose to leave

which why the agreement will happen :)

I'm cool with that. I want it to happen ASAP.

Should be some quality entertainment SEC games with TX/OU.

There will be huge checks cut to the Big 12 from TX/OU though. Which I've contended all along.

So you admit this post was a complete strawman and not related in any way?

i think they'd let KU walk without paying 50mil.. but I don't see anyone else leaving tbh..

I don't.

Reverse this situation and say it was Kansas and Iowa St joining the Big 10.
tejas would be screaming bloody murder and demanding they pay the full amount (2X) owed to the big 12. "Teh GoR, TeH GoR".

Tejas would be scoffing at anyone pointing at FOX being the holdup ("iT's NoT tEh MoNey"), and be demanding the case be heard in Delaware courts as opposed to Kansas courts.

were we screaming bloody murder when Nebraska left? or Mizzu? Colorado?? I do know they were angry at aggy but UT wasn't the one threatening to sue everyone (ie Baylor).

UT would have been pleased if ISU or KU went to the BiG and if Tech and osu went to the Pac 12.. Hell you can go back to 1990 and there's articles where UT gave it's blessings to Arkansas to leave the SWC for the SEC.

I'll tell you who would cry bloody murder though..

Why yes. Yes you were.

You were calling Nebraska pussies for leaving "because they couldn't beat tejas".

Of course Nebraska actually left for security because tejas was flirting with the PAC and taking 3 other Big 12 teams along.
Like with every other deal, tejas had it's fingers crossed behind it's back when negotiating with the PAC.

cause y'all WERE PUSSIES.. blaming mean ol TEXAS for everything.. from voting, to CCGs being moved from KC.. blaming refs that were being paid by us too lol..

LOL not UTs fault that your ex Big8 group decided to vote with UT for the most part. Acting like y'all wanted everything equal when y'all also voted for unequal sharing.. Tom voting no for a conference network because they were also looking into getting something done with their 3rd tier rights.. (lol nobody was gonna pay them for a NU channel)

Soon as UT does it, it's the 'final' straw. just admit that y'all were pussies blaming everyone other than yourselves.

Personally, I think the B1G and SEC are still a little short sighted with Kansas. Sure they don't seem that great at the moment but that area of the country is expected to grow faster than possibly any other area (maybe Southeast can compete) and Kansas is a massive brand in basketball.

My periodic reminder that basketball revenue does not get included in the equation for expansion. And Kansas has been historically terrible at football. I mean really terrible. They would be so far away from ever contributing close to the $110 million per year share of revenue as to making each other team give up many millions for the pleasure of Kansas' company. Ain't happening.

So it being official that UT and ou will be playing the '24 season in the SEC... word is that the Big12 is about to further expand.. I'm guessing that some of the schools currently in the PAC are ready to jump ship

Yeah, I heard rumors this is the main reason Big12 was eager to get OU and Texas out ASAP.

i think the AZ schools and Colorado are ready to jump..but the two prizes would be Udub and Oregon right?

If AZ and Colorado jump, those two will jump as well. I guess Utah maybe the last one they pick up. Perhaps they grab Cal and Stanford as well, who knows.

lol.. man i would leave Cal and Stanford alone.. they seem to be the denominator for all issues in the PAC
