Big 12 thread

And the recruiting thing is legit.. Once Tom is let go.. this would make it 2 transition classes in the past 5 years, 3 in the past 8 years...not a good trend. However, if you keep Herman now you are already have fallen behind for the 22 class which is one of the deepest classes from the state of TX for sometime now. The amount of bluechips (projected at this point) for 22 is more than the last two years out the state. Keeping Tom does more harm than good and the AD knows this.. he won't miss.

mmmkay?

Wow, is that where texas fandom is at now? gimme different?

Yikes.

I remember the Blake and Schnelly eras in Norman...as bad as it got, it wasn't ever about "different". It was always about better. Gibbs was on par with Herman, actually a bit better...but he was a cold fish and the boosties were still in Switzerland.
It’s obvious that people want better, but my point is most just don’t want Herman. He has burned any goodwill he had with the AD, Boosters, and Fans. When that happens it’s a matter of when and not if.

No Idea.. these things have a way a give us twists and turns
You can always go after Saban again.

I loved it when those guys had Nick Saban paged at a Texas airport, that was brilliant.

Is that an upgrade over Herman? I’m not agreeing or disagreeing but I’m not sure I’m making a move unless it’s Urban. Regardless of how many people hate Herms.
At this point it seems like some Texas fans have reached a point that anything different is an upgrade.

I hear Sabans jet was on its way to AUS over the weekend.

It makes no difference to Oklahoma who is the head football coach at the University of Autism.

Heupel? A QB coach that knows the conference and area.
QB coach yes, but knowing the conf. and area? Not sold. The conf. is waaaaaayyyy different than it was and I don't know his track record of recruiting texas or what kind of contacts he has built here.

Going to be difficult to usurp what Riley has in place in those areas.

Difficult to usurp what Riley has in place in those areas? When did Riley turn into Saban or Smart on the trail?? The problem for Texas hasn't been recruiting against anyone in the conference.. the problem is them not being able to translate those top 10 classes into consistent wins throughout the seasons.

Texas won't hire Heupel, but he really wouldn't have an issue recruiting with the longhorn logo on his polo shirt

Where is Riley from? (texas)
What was his dad? (texas HS football coach)
I would think he has a leg up on most coaches as far as the networking and contacts game, in the state of texas.

What is Riley's record vs texas as a HC?

Apparently he doesn't need to be Saban or Smart to beat texas. Looks like Riley is seeing something other than the stars beside a players name....and/or he and his staff are better at identifying and developing talent...and/or....

If I had multiple coaches "beating" OU on the recruiting trail, but failing to beat them on the field in a similar manner...I would think there is a coach-spanning culture problem. :2cents:

And how many classes has Riley had that finished higher than Texas in recruiting? Hell Chuck had higher classes during his tenure than Stoops did.. in fact the only seasons Texas didn't have the higher ranking class were the two transition classes in 2014 and 2017 which they finished 2nd. With Tom being a dead man walking this year, Lincoln will probably have his first top Big 12 ranked recruiting class.

I get that he has owned Texas since he arrived but acting like whomever the new coach won't have an advantage recruiting because of Lincoln or ou is mistaken. If it were Heupel (which it won't), I would hope he can develop since that's the biggest issue with this team.

Heard OU has a covid issue. Any idea how bad it is?

Stonger and Haslewood out?

F us if it's a position group. We're supposed to get half our OL back so I'm cautiously optimistic. Bedlam almost never happens in prime time and this week the next best game in that slot is Tennessee Auburn. This is either team's opportunity to make a statement so if the squats can't go its really going to suck.

Wallace has to be the best player on the field for OSU to win. OU has the advantage inside at OL and DL and OSU has the advantage on the outside at WR and CB. Might come down to which Sanders avoids the boneheaded turnovers. Can OSU force Spencer to throw to win? Can OSU block long enough to give Spencer time to throw

My personal #2 would be Tony Elliot. He hasn't been a HC, however he's been the OC/co-OC at Clemson since 2014.
Is he an upgrade over herms?

Equal to?

It seems crazy to want to fire a coach but not know who to bring in if plan A fails.

I don’t think that’s the wisest move if an obvious improvement isn’t coming in overall. But I gues Tejas loses some next season so who knows.

He would have to be.. has some skins on the wall recruiting elite QBs, his offense has gotten championships/championship appearances. If you really go back and look at Herman's tenure at UH.. you can see the habits he never shook off at Texas. He's done in Austin, AD still hasn't come out in support, and Tom made it a point to pass the buck to him Monday.

Tom is too stubborn for his own good and he should have that come to jesus moment once he's unemployed and can reflect.
