Oklahoma's problem has been is it's about the fourth best team in the country every year. So we lose in a four team playoff which makes sense. Only when we get to be one of the top two teams in the country can anyone really expect this crappy losing streak to finally end.

Hard truths: Nebraska didn't like being in the same conference as Texas. Texas A&M hated being in the same conference as Texas. And Oklahoma doesn't need to be in the same conference as Texas. There are at least 6 members of the Big XII who are scared to death about another round of realignment drama in Norman that would blow things to hell and gone.

I have been sayin it for awhile. I think the Big 10 has some great coaches, but what is TCU when Patterson retires? Is KSU going back to their non-Snyder selves? What’s OSU w/o Gundy. Only Texas and OU recruit at a consistent top 20 level. The league has actually had way better play than the resources support. Who knows how the play will be this year. Covid has all the prep messed up, so only thing consistent in games I watched was sloppy play. My issue is there are too many small schools in the league that depend on great coaching to be competitive. Only Ou, Texas, WV, and Kansas are the flag ship state school. Kansas doesn’t care about Football and WV is a very small state. Rest of the league is second tier state schools and private schools. It is bad recipe for prolonged success
Cold hard truth. Relying on great coaching alone will not get a team to the mountain top IMO.
But in football, there are several "flag ship state schools" in the P5s that have to rely on great coaching alone as well. So they need to be pared off the football tit as well. Again. JMO.

Personally, the post Gundy era is a concern. That being said, aside from 10 schools or so either the current coach is a concern or the next one is. Hell, you guys fired Mack and to date your hires haven't exactly been thrilling.
With the Big 12 in the next decade a couple of new hires will work and another couple won't. Same way with the ACC or Big 10. That's just the way it is.

It’s different. Big 12 has been solid, because of excellent coaching. The issue is the resources. Coaching matters anywhere, but look at Texas. They have missed, but remain relevant. They are relevant, because they can always field a reasonably talented team and have tradition. That means they get on TV, kids like that. That isn’t luxury for any other team in the Big 12, outside of OU. Tell me about the recruiting grounds for OSU, ISU, KSU, Kansas, and WV. They are horrible. All of them have to recruit out of state to field teams. I could add Tech, because they are 5-7 hours away from decent recruiting grounds. Big 12 has a horrible population footprint.
If we are talking "FOOTBALL" only, I agree with you 100% If we are talking "OVERALL", I'd say 7. Kansas is attractive to some conferences because of hoops and academia. Texas Tech has had more success lately in non football sports than those three that are coveted. Hell, they even had a golfer in the US Open yhis past weekend and they ain't known for that. So conference football affiliation needs to be separated, not the other things IMO.
Again, if we are talking FOOTBALL only....not other sports or academia....there are many current P5 schools in the BIG, SEC and ACC that ain't any better in football than the 7 we are talking about in the Big 12.

yes because everyone relies on the state of Texas for players.. However WV really isn't hurting that since they do not recruit TX like everyone else does. Which brings me to the point where I don't understand why Texas would go to the BIG.. because there are more players to get in states like MN, WI, IL, IA? Or do we now target PA, OH, MI, NJ? BIG doesn't make sense. Are any of those schools outside tosu and..?? whomever you want to choose as #2 is, better than what the middle of the pack Big 12 schools?
Basketball, baseball have been really competitive in the Big 12.. I don't think it gets better going to the BIG imo.
Now for ou, it probably makes much more sense for a move to the BIG. As for UT, they rather be independent that join the BIG.. Now the big issue is whether they end up joining the SEC. It's a much better fit since aggy, pig, lsu are natural rivalries. But there are a lot of hurdles. They will not want to give up LHN, even if ESPN buys out the contract, the school has said it multiple times that it would continue to carry it. May not be carried by satellite/cable providers but who needs them when you can charge for an app?
Lastly, Texas didn't kick Nebraska out, Nebraska ran out. They felt that they were holding the school back competitively. The whole charade of realignment just fed into the excuses. Osborne, DeLoss and Boren always had the power to end it but Osborne didn't want to come together instead he saw his way out. I hope they enjoy the check because at the end of the day, that's all it's going to be. They aren't a real voice anymore and will become another MN/IA/WI.. good teams, really good teams every blue moon or so.. but real title challengers? Most Likely not.

what hurts perception wise is that the Big 12 doesn't have 12 schools and two divisions.. If they were separated, it would help schools like Kansas rebuild quicker since they wouldn't play ou, UT, osu, TCU every year.
We had NE, MIzzu and aggy before.. what made those schools in the Big 12 so much better than it is now? NOTHING.. round robin schedule is great but you can hide warts with two separate divisions.
Although I'll admit with the round robin plus the CCG game.. It's going to be hard to ever not let a 1 loss Big12 team in the CFP. No other conference outside an occasional SEC CCG can put on a better game.

people are missing the point. It’s about population. I did a quick comparison between Sec, Big10, and Big 12. It was quick, so I apologize if it is off a bit.
SEC: 93.8 million people are represented in the states in the conference
Big 10: 74.8 million
Big 12: 41.3 million
that isn’t even getting into recruiting grounds.

Kansas academics is all that as they are ranked 124th by USN&WR. For comparison purposes Auburn is 97th.
On the Hoops front historically they have been incredible but so has UCLA and neither one of those programs has done much of anything lately. Auburn kicked their ass in the 2nd round of the NCAA and Kansas was a 4 seed.
They don't have B1G academics, they don't bring any value to the SEC, the ACC would be geographically weird. I mean where do they go and who would want them?

Kansas basketball has value. They are blue blood in hoops and it isn’t debatable. They would fit with the Big or PAC..

The ACC is underachieving as they have the firepower with programs like Miami. FSU, Virginia Tech, and Clemson to compete with the SEC.
I agree, the Big12 lost a lot with Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, and A&M leaving. Colorado sucked in modern era but were a power in the Big8 and early Big12 days. Same was true with Nebraska. The original Big12 was a great blend of basketball and football powers. Now it is mostly basketball powers that have solid football at some of the teams due to coaching for now but really only have two football powers historically.
However, I will state that the Pac12 and to some degree B1G are having similar issues. The B1G has more powers but the recruiting is not as strong up north, especially when you get past the Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State combo.
